1099 contractors can set up their own SEP-IRA. And should.

So when the us government and banking systems fall...you’ll be in some foreign land with no money coming in from your defunct country...hope you’ve got a good stash of local currency where you are at.

“Social Security 2024 Increase Angers Some Americans”

Friends, wherever you stand on this issue, no matter if you are outraged or ambivalent, no matter whether it hurts you or does not affect you, social security benefits will approach in value....zero.

It wont go to zero. It wont come close to providing a “living” either. It wont do anything but bitterly dissapoint those who depend on it.

The ebd of the era of “big government” is indeed looming. Its demise will be sealed by money printing. The only way America can go forward is an outright default on the promises everybody thought they could count on.

We could have avoided much of the pain this situation will cause, but we chose as a country to let our representatives steal the “American Dream”.

Bicker as you will over this issue, but the focus should be “how do states and localities deal with legions of Americans who are destitute because they counted on a government check to sustain them?”

All promises by local, state, and federal governments are likely to not be kept.

What then?

I’m not angered by it. Last year’s increase was higher, but I’m not going to pooh-pooh anything extra that I get. I was expecting Biden’s Regime to not pay anything.

Does anyone, anywhere honestly believe that the cost of living rose only 3.2% last year. All other arguments aside, that sort of manipulation of reality only further decreases the government’s credibility, even as difficult as that may be.

S.S. was never designed or intended to be anyone’s sole source of income.

That makes just as much sense as the argument that the 2nd amendment only applies to muskets. Times change, people change, and when SS was put in place it was the only tax deducted from a paycheck for most people. And it was not the same rate it is today.

And when I read about large cities in this country trying to figure out how to pay for the expensive hobby of keeping illegal aliens comfortable, it is painful to think about the people at the low end of the spectrum having to cope with the 2024 increase.

I got a letter from the Social Security office. The increases for my wife and myself will amount to $70 for the year, after accounting for new reductions they are adding for some new taxes.

I’m glad Social Security is not my primary retirement plan.

Yep - wife and I both started SS when we were 62 - money put away and other retirements are what keeps us from food shopping in the pet aisle....or having to dumpster dive....did the math to be sure we could actually retire before we retired.

My property taxes dropped about 25% in Texas. With the homestead exemption, and over 65 provisions, it shouldn’t jump to much from current levels.

“Wow! how am I going to spend that much extra cash??”

Make a downpayment on your next foo shopping cart. Inflation is over.

If the rise in SS payment reflected the inflation index, it would be 34% instead of 3.2%.

“Could you sell and move somewhere cheaper?”

Not asked of me but...I’d love to but right now selling isn’t quite as easy as I’d like. And while the market is finally cooling some in the rural areas that went insane during the Year of COVID Fear Porn, they haven’t fallen in line with what people can actually make there.

I’ve wanted to move since before COVID but the price spike hit just as I entered the market and it doesn’t seem to be going down. Think people fleeing CA are still keeping prices high here.

My property taxes aren’t insane where I live, but they’ve gone up enough to eat up the entire increase in my wife’s SS. And then some. Our after tax income will go down this year, but we’ve saved most of our lives and will do OK.

Ditto here. My husband and I started planning form retirement in our 30s with the thought that SS may be bankrupt by the time we are in our 60s. We are mid-50s now.

My father in law was a good example for us - he planned extremely well and even though his wife passed before he did, in his 80s he had no debt, and plenty to live on. He also had the resources for us to be able to care for him at home for the past 5 years, including daily caregivers during his last year. Medicare helped a lot with doctors and medicine, but caregiving, diapers, good equipment, caregiving and such was out of pocket (around $7k a month)

I just got notice my 2024 SS benefits will go up by $75/month. Wow! how am I going to spend that much extra cash??

Keep in mind Medicare will raise their price like they ALWAYS do when seniors get a COLA and you'll end up with about $20 extra!

Mine went up 43% in October.
The government is a stinking vampire, they would put me on the street before they would give up a damn dime of the money they squeeze out of me
