'Historic' COP28 deal to 'transition away' from fossil fuels adopted

Governments have agreed for the first time ever to "transition away" from fossil fuels to avert the worst effects of climate change, in an "historic" agreement from the COP28 climate summit.

The UN's climate body, UNFCCC, published the draft text of the deal early on Wednesday morning after negotiations had run well into the small hours in Dubai.

Host nation the United Arab Emirates then quickly rushed it through a closing plenary session, facing no objections.

"Let us finish what we have started," said COP28 President Sultan al-Jaber, as the room erupted in applause.

"We have language on fossil fuels in our final agreement for the first time ever." He called it "historic".

The deal is not legally-binding, but calls on all countries to move away from the use of fossil fuels, for the first time in almost 30 years of COP climate summits.

It does not satisfy the small island states like Samoa and the Marshall Islands who led an earlier push to "phase out" all fossil fuels, which would have been stronger than the "transition away" that was finally agreed.

It also contained loopholes that upset critics, such as allowing a role for "transitional fuels" like gas.

Sky News' climate reporter Victoria Seabrook was inside the closing session of COP28 and said there were "emotional" scenes.

"There were hugs, there were tears. I saw the US climate envoy John Kerry hugging the German foreign minister Annalena Baerbock.

An “all the above, let the people choose” strategy could work.

To make non-hydrocarbon based energy a choice this is just for starters:

1. Hundreds, if not thousands, of new nuclear reactors, world-wide, for power supply. Solar, hydro or wind sources are not 24/7/365 consistency and 99.999% reliability for delivery and cannot be a factor.

Which would be worthless unless also and immediately installed:

2. The power grid and transmission/delivery system down to each individual load (home, charging station, business, etc.)

3. A Constitutional amendment, carefully word-crafted to prevent weasel word legislators/lawyers, protecting users from government control (switching on/off, brown outs, etc.), price controls and establishing energy acquisition as a freedom AND right for every citizen.

So blithely put: “transition away...”. Just as they would like us to “transition away” from home ownership, private vehicles, and meat. Bastards. Evil ones, too.

Fly private jets to exotic locations, get drunk and sign pretend treaties with other non-elected scumbags.

Nice work if you can get it.

The consequences of this global warming hoax will only be foisted upon the self-destructive western nations. If any nation does actually abrogate the use of these necessary fuels, they will committing national suicide.

It’s not suicide.

It’s the premeditated murder of the middle class.

The climate alarmists formerly thought that only western burning of fossil fuel causes climate change. Hence, Kyoto exempted developing nations from any limit, and Paris allowed developing nations to set their own limits which turned out to be sufficient in the aggregate to burn all known reserves of fossil fuel.

What physicist thinks climate change depends on western burning of fossil fuel and not on the fossil fuel burnt by developing nations?

Now the climate alarmists have moved from “net zero” to “zero” emissions. Net zero considers off-sets such as the growing of trees and the capture of CO2 at the source of the burning of fossil fuel, such as at a coal-burning electricity-generation plant, and the sequestration of this CO2 deep underground.

Again, what physicist believes that net zero has any effect on climate change?

The climate alarmists have revealed, again!, that they’re not depending on science. Theirs is a religion, not a science. They are like the primitives who thought sacrificing virgins would placate the volcano gods. Only, since there are no virgins any longer, they seek to sacrifice the internal combustion engine.

The goal is not to have something that works. The goal is to eliminate 7 billion people through starvation. The globalist elites don’t see themselves included in that number. One elitist recently said he hopes the masses can starve peacefully.

Understood but what puzzles me is if the common Man goes wild weasel because they have nothing left to lose, that these politicians, power brokers, administrators, ultra-wealthy, media giants, academia, etc. will be snipered out by millions of one-fatal-shot-and-run-like-hell 2002 copy-cat DC beltway snipers.

I don't recall the Senate approving a treaty for this either.

[Here’s your world government...]

Never underestimate the stupidity of people in government

One day the fools who bought into all of this will have no food, no electricity, no gasoline and hence, no jobs

And they STILL won’t be able to figure out what actually happened

This scam works very well for Al Gore, Bill Gates and John Kerry. BIG mansions, flying jets, duping the fools. Telling the fools to eat their bugs...

Bugs - it's what the WEF (World Economic Forum) says every one else can eat for dinner - while THEY, the Globalist Elites, dine on lobster, steak, etc.

it depends on the country and region. For instance, in Portugal, 58% of the electricity consumed came from renewables, mainly wind power and hydro.

According to the European Statistics Office, wind and hydropower accounted for more than two thirds of the total electricity produced from renewable sources (37% and 32%, respectively) in the EU. The remaining third of the electricity came from photovoltaic and solar thermal energy (15%), solid biofuels (7%) and other renewable sources (8%).

States in the south can go up to 60% energy from renewables. The rest would need to be nuclear

John Kerry was never approved by Congress to any government position therefore, he cannot represent the U.S. in any negotiation. In fact, Kerry is and has been violating the Logan Act on a daily basis.
