Royal Navy nuclear submarine equipped with Trident missiles 'suffered huge malfunction that sent the vessel into an endless dive - with engineers saving the 140 crew members moments before they faced being crushed by underwater pressure'

A Royal Navy nuclear submarine equipped with Trident missiles suffered a huge malfunction that sent it into an endless dive before the vessel was righted moments before the crew faced being crushed by underwater pressure, it was claimed today.

The Vanguard class sub had been carrying 140 crew when its depth gauge suddenly failed while on a mission in the Atlantic.

It caused a frantic scrabble with engineers managing to stop the submarine and its nuclear reactor from plunging further just moments before disaster struck.

The deep sea vessel, carrying Trident 2 missiles, was on patrol when the depth indicators stopped working, with its crew falsely believing it was level when in fact it was diving deeper into the ocean.

It was only when engineers at the back of the sub found a second gauge indicating they were headed towards the 'danger zone' that they sounded the alarm.

Sorry to be picky but neither of those failures had anything to do with faulty instruments.

By far the best inline engine of WW2 was the British Merlin, which among other things transformed the anemic North American Mustang into the most effective fighter of the entire war. If you fly commercial today there’s a good chance that you’ll be riding on Rolls-Royce engines. The problem with British cars and motorcycles was that a.)they were always built to a price, and b.)labor unions.

That information certainly explains the COB’s excellent insight.

Training is too busy focusing on pronouns, gender pretenders, safe spaces, fursuits, puppy masks and not enough on actual warfighting.

” just moments before disaster struck.”

Urinalists! They do this for a living!

The “disaster” NEVER “struck”.

“was to strike”, “would have struck”.

I’m 5’6” so the MG’s were perfect for me. I never owned one but I got to drive one of his whenever I wanted to. It was FUN! These country back roads were nice to zip along on in one with the top down on a summer day.

There is only one thing that is more fun to drive than those little two seat sports cars: A cafe racer motorcycle. Power and instant acceleration at the flick of the wrist.

Q: Why don’t the British make computers?

A: They couldn’t figure out how to make them leak oil.

I don’t know about that-I understand how compressing a gas increases the pressure and vice-versa, but it was certainly the overpressure that killed them, not the increase in temperature, I would think. (PV=nRT)

Yeah, It is not rocket science. Pretty simple physics. How Lucas kept goofing it up I have no clue. And they never regrouped to do it right, they just kept goofing it over and over for years and years. lol

Sigh. I meant increasing the pressure (without increasing the volume) increases the temperature which is why they have to cool diving tanks in water as they fill them with compressed air, and why fire extinguishers get icy cold when you discharge them.

Same here, had a couple triumphs, a BSA 441 Victor, and still have a BSA 500 Goldstar.

Nope, the sub was gently wafting its way to the bottom perfectly level. Either that or submariners have all given up coffee.

A sub isn't gonna waft its way up or down unless the ballast tanks are leaking or flooded to equate to a depth deeper than the current level. Even if the sub is aimed down (pretty noticeable I would think..?), they can only propel themselves down so far before buoyant forces are stronger than the propulsive drive forces.

Course, I highly doubt they allow uncovered cups of any liquids in there!
