An electric vehicle manufacturer with alleged ties to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) tried to locate in Alabama before local economic development officials turned down the project over national security concerns.
According to Fox News Digital, California-based firm Gotion Inc. approached the Shoals Economic Development Authority in 2022 to gauge interest in developing a factory on the site of the shuttered FreightCar America factory in Muscle Shoals.
According to the outlet, unnamed local officials decided against the project after learning more about Gotion. Gotion eventually took the plan elsewhere to Michigan to develop a battery component facility and Illinois for a battery cell factory.
Kevin Jackson, the president of the Shoals Economic Development Authority, declined to comment to Fox News Digital on the Muscle Shoals proposal, saying the organization entered into a nondisclosure agreement with Gotion to discuss the potential facility. According to Jackson, the agreement lasts for three years after the termination of the project.
Gotion has defended its development plans in the United States, saying its parent company is publicly owned, and that the CCP has no influence in its operations, according to Fox News.
U.S. Sen. Katie Britt (R-Montgomery) told Fox News Digital, "The Chinese Communist Party is our country's greatest national security and geopolitical threat, and we must remember everything they do is as our adversary."
"There is no doubt that the CCP wants to plant their flag in the American heartland, including right here in Alabama," Britt said. "As Communist China continues to attempt to buy up critical industries, supply chains, and land across the United States, it's imperative that we remain vigilant and exercise all due caution to protect our interests and safeguard America's future."
Also, EV production at this time is a mistake. There's been a bunch of news lately about EV overproduction and growing lot inventories without enough buyers.
Muscle Shoals still remembers.
China expects a global collapse, I think, with the expectation of cornering the market.
CCP slave labor camps. Coming to America.
Sweet Home Alabama…
But a CCP run business has no place in the U.S. Especially one getting tax credits and such from the U.S. govt (the EV stuff built into the Inflation Raising Act plus only God knows how else other govt money goes into EV's). Especially if it has to do with the CCP having their hands on our transportation. And all the more so if the Dims force people to buy EV's --- the CCP having more control over the only transportation option the Dims let us have.
I always thought it was mussel shoals like the bi-valve.
The EV crap is not sustainable. To a actually make it work we need 5 times are current power plant production. And that will happen with failing wind and solar?
I’ve got a great deal on a toll bridge inNY for you!
Now Muscle Shoals has got the Swampers
And they’ve been known to pick a song or two (yes, they do)
Several theories:
Just How Did Muscle Shoals Get That Name?
https://quadcitiesdaily.com/just-how-did-muscle-shoals-get-that-name/
There are several explanations as to how the city got its name. One is that it was named for a former natural feature of the Tennessee River, a shallow zone where mussels were gathered, and settlers named as Muscle Shoals. When the area was first settled, the distinct spelling of “mussel” to refer to the shellfish had not yet been locally adopted. Cherokee people called it, “the place of clams or mussels”.
Many Alabamians call it simply “The Shoals”.
I’m not worthy to pass judgment on those guys. Right up there with The Wrecking Crew IMNSHO
That’s one heck of a history, dear God. The music recorded there... How in the name of God did all of that happen there?
Mosy people will have no clue about this reference, go do some homework, it will blow your mind.
All these years I thought they had “the swamp bug” and wondered what that was.
I’ve been to Muscle Shoals several times. Good people. Good decision.
Notice that this had to be stopped at the local level.
RepubliClowns in Congress could do something - but won’t.
Green Charter Township, Michigan also blocked a Gotion factory there.
The Repub Congressman for the Michigan county was trying to block this plant via a change in EV tax credits - of course he go nowhere.
But the people threw out the Green Charter Executive - which was the Repub Congressman’s old job before he went to Washington.
Important lesson: He gave up a local position where he could have done something, to go to Washington where he could do nothing.
Looks like the Repub Congressman from the area was supporting the Gotion plant.
