Hyundai Motor customers who want to skip the dealership will have a new option next year: shopping on Amazon.com.

The Korean automaker announced the move Thursday with Amazon at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Starting in 2024, U.S. auto dealers will be able to sell vehicles on the tech company’s platform, making Hyundai the first automotive brand to offer such an option for customers

Hyundai will be an Amazon Associate selling through Amazon Marketplace (at least they used to be called "associates").

Amazon isn't involved except to market the product of a third-party seller.

There is nothing unusual about delivering cars that have been sold online. In fact, Teslas can be bought online (IIRC Tesla has only 160 stores in the U.S.). And they deliver. Repairmen even come to your home if necessary.

.......The World is ever changing and this appears to be one of those.....

Hyundai said that initially only 15 to 20 dealers will be able to sell their vehicles on Amazon, but that it will expand it to more by the end of next year. “Is this going to help us sell more cars? We believe so,” said Muñoz.

More EV buyers in 2022 were open to the idea of buying a car fully online compared with gas-powered vehicle buyers, according to a study from Cox Automotive, an industry-research firm.

“What we see here is a highly competitive industry, but that is also edging towards e-commerce and we really think we can help customers here,” Fan Jin, Amazon’s director of vehicle sales said at the auto show. Jin declined to say how Amazon would make money on vehicle sales.

Los Angeles-based auto dealer Mike Sullivan says he has made e-commerce sales and home deliveries for years. But the new partnership between Amazon and Hyundai will help him better serve the needs of today’s customers.

Ford has adopted new rules for U.S. dealers looking to sell the company’s electric vehicles, including requiring no-haggle pricing. The Dearborn, Mich.-based automaker’s chief executive, Jim Farley, has been particularly outspoken about the need to revamp how cars are sold, saying the direct sales approach can save about $2,000 a vehicle.

Ford plans to provide EV customers with more flexible purchases online starting next year, with transparent pricing and remote vehicle delivery, executives have said.

“It’s probably like how Costco sells cars.”

Costco doesn’t sell cars. The link you up with a participating dealer.

I went to a ford dealer to buy a new car. We all know how inflated car prices have gotten especially this last year or two. But what killed the deal was the extra charge ($50,400!) the dealer demanded on top of the regular asking price in the sticker. Needless to say, we left and will never go back.
These local dealers csn mosyly be replaced just fine by direct online sales by the car makers. If they want to use Amazon I think it is an unnecessary middleman but ok still a zillion times better then the highway robbery (pun intended) at some car dealers today m
I’d be helly yo buy the car on a ford website

Costco gives you participating dealers and then you go to the dealer and view available cars.

As described this looks like you can view inventory and select the car via Amazon.

No, no. You order three. All different models. You drive them all, and return the one’s you don’t want to the local dealership.

Thank you.

Unless all 50 states have repealed their laws against factory direct buying, then yeah. There was no way Amazon was going to sell Hyundais to the public.

This really isn’t any different than selling cars on Ebay.

I’ve never paid MSRP for a car.

It can be done. Even these days.

” Here in Colorado Springs Hyundais are the most popular target for car theft”

Colorado is #1 in vehicle theft rate. Most favorite targets are pick-up trucks with the Silverado #1.

Interestingly, compared to the rest of the nation, stolen vehicles are more likely to be used by the homeless as shelters or bathrooms.

Most thefts are from leaving the keys in the vehicle.

I drove a Hundai Elantra I rented this summer, in Wisconsin.

Very impressive. Lots of value for the money.

Made in America, in Alabama.

Probably as much American parts as GM.

Averaged 44 mpg on the trip, in a reasonably sized, easy driving five person sedan, with an excellent warranty.

I bought a truck through the old auto by tel program. I submitted the order. The nearby auto by tel GM dealer called me to verify. I was informed when the truck was ready. I got a ride to the dealership and picked it up. This Amazon deal is similar. You still have to mess with a dealer. It is required by law in most states to buy from a dealer.

A Hundai/Kia, in Wisconsin, in the summer??? I didn't think there were any left! You are lucky you didn't car jacked. Most Hundai/Kia's on the road today have a design mistake that allows them to be stolen with a USB cable, which the company refused to fix or recall. We have had thousands of them stolen each year. I personally know several people who have been the victims of this, and I have personally seen these "Kia Boys" thieves driving erratically swerving back and forth with their friends sitting on the car's open window sills. We recently had a pregnant mother killed by one of these monsters driving a stolen Kia at 113 miles per hour down a suburban street. I will never buy a Hundai/Kia because of the social cost of their bad engineering and their despicable refusal to fix it.
