Xi Jinping should have entered San Francisco’s Apec conference with his tail between his legs, but instead has emerged as something closer to the king of the world. China may be experiencing tepid growth, a bloated real estate market, low industrial production, and an increasingly alienated youth yet, in spite of these factors, he appears to be wearing the crown.

To reach for this kind of power, being a dictator is helpful. One can force an agenda on one’s nation and the world without worrying too much about domestic critics. It certainly works with foreigners: after all, Xi’s mere presence has led San Francisco to clean itself up, something it has not managed for the last decade.

It’s also worth comparing Xi to his counterparts. Besides him, Western leaders are doing little to impress — not least his host, the doddering Joe Biden, whose own party does not even want him to run. There’s not a Churchill, Roosevelt or even a Reagan in the bunch. Biden was even prevented from unveiling a proposed new trade deal in San Francisco with Asia’s other economies due to opposition from his own party.

Strategically, Xi has the West exactly where he wants it. China agreed to US climate proposals in San Francisco this week. The demands for more wind and solar energy, as well as electric vehicles, assure an industrial supremacy for the country that produces more greenhouse gases than the entire developed world put together. China already boasts a huge lead in solar battery production, and increasingly dominates the production of rare-earth elements, which are critical to wind turbines, solar panels and electric vehicles.

According to their own 2020 Census data - the Chinese reached their population peak in 2005. And, they are crashing so quickly that by 2050 there will be half as many Hahn Chinese on the planet.

There may be some positive spikes but China is not getting better in the long run.

Xi will sell the US all the greenie stuff to replace real industrial capacity while ramping up his military. No trannies running his armed forces.

A reduction in population is probably a net plus for overpopulated China.

China Increasingly Relies on Imported Food. That’s a Problem.

>>With less than 10 percent of the planet’s arable land, China produces one-fourth of the world’s grain and feeds one-fifth of the world’s population.

Xi knows he was fighting a feeble lame duck in San Francisco. Come November 2024, his opponent will change--possibly to Trump.

Conclusion for Xi: You have exactly 12 months do make your move against the U.S.

Between this, and what the U.S. border with arch-enemy Mexico has become, we are so ucked fup as a nation, it isn’t even funny anymore.

It will be different when Trumps in office. He would have handled that situation differently for sure.

Xi was in power during the Trump administration. Since the Biden administration has more or less continued Trump’s policy concerning China, there is not likely to be much change with as second Trump administration.

I believe that is incorrect.

Policy is one thing. Response (i.e., the threat of military response) is another thing altogether.

Biden is weak and is an idiot. His policies are virtually irrelevant.

On top of that, China isn't afraid of "policy"...that isn't a real deterrent.

All the homeless encampments should have been left intact - and Xi taken on a tour. After all, it is fentanyl coming from HIS country that is causing a good deal of it.

Nov 13 (Reuters) - U.S. Treasury Secy Janet Yellen hosted a Finance Ministers’ Meeting at the APEC. She pushed back on Moody's decision to cut its outlook on U.S. debt. Yellen said, "the U.S. economy is strong and the Treasury market is both safe and liquid."

The ratings agency on Friday lowered its outlook on the U.S. credit rating to "negative" from "stable," citing large fiscal deficits and a decline in debt affordability.

"This is a decision I disagree with," Yellen told APEC Finance Ministers in San Francisco. "The Biden administration is 'completely committed to a credible and sustainable fiscal path.' The U.S. economy is doing well and moving in the right direction," Yellen said, (even though the sale of Treasuries to finance the debt are lagging in China and elsewhere).

"Can I interest you in some Treasuries, Mr Xi?"

Watching Zi and Biden on TV the last few days I couldn’t help but think of cat and mouse. Recall how a cat will tease and play with its prey before killing it???? - and them leave the carcass in front of the door for everyone to see???

The fentanyl is coming from Mexico.

The problem is that we do not have a border between us and the failed state to our south.

The fentanyl comes from China. It is brought up through Mexico.

In many cases, precursor chemicals come from China, but the fentanyl is actually synthesized in Mexico. It is then cut, combined with binders and pressed into pills either in Mexico or the US. There’s a small amount of fentanyl direct mailed from China as pure fentanyl, which is then prepared for sale in the US.
