Yay, us!
I’m going to wait to pass judgement on Mike Johnson’s approach, for now. As I understand it, he’s basically saying he wants to break the spending bills down into separate, smaller bills rather than cramming everything into a single omnibus spending bill. The omnibus spending bills, which have become the norm, and allow the Democrats to hold the entire government hostage (well not really, but...details) until they get what they want.
Laddering the spending this way takes that leverage away from them. But it’s not going to matter if the Republicans are just going to cave on the individual appropriation bills, so we’ll have to see how that plays out.
So what changed under the new speaker.
What exactly did the scum Gaetz planned to achieve.
How is this any different than McCarthy’s actions?
In short: us.
“America demands a balanced budget, which cuts spending.”
Horsesh!t.
Americans want, nay demand, freebies.
And anyone who gets in the way of that will be unelected at the very first opportunity.
About 20% of the electorate wants a balanced budget when presented with the implications of such.
McCarthy wasn’t laddered.
Please read my post again.
I delineated two different things. Let me post it slowly so you don’t have to resort to vulgar words caused by lack of reading comprehension...
AMERICA (the nation) demands a balanced budget...
AMERICANS (the people) have simply forgotten that...
Clearer for you now?
“Johnson played this correctly and ethically.”
I agree, he’s only been Speaker 3 weeks !!!! Sheesh.
Some here should take the time to listen to what he’s trying to set up before they just knee jerk on a head line
Moving these spending deadline votes away from the Christmas recess is smart.
Keeping these deadlines away from Christmas in the future is also smart.
Breaking bills spending into smaller parts is where he’s headed
Give the man a chance
The only card the senate has is “Shutdown the Govmint”. My answer, so what. Let it stay shutdown. Seems the only way to start controlling spending. We lose because of infiltrators who knife us in the back and run off to join the dims. Throw them out of the party. No loss, the Dims bitch slap us now and whenever they want as things are now.
“AMERICA (the nation) demands a balanced budget...”
The only entity that can speak for “the nation” is a majority of Congress, in a Bill duly passed, and signed by the POTUS.
And that “nation” is clearly NOT demanding a balanced budget.
Are we all cast members of the old Phil Silvers’ show “You’ll Never Get Rich?
I believe it was under Obama when the Republicans shut down the government and despite having no money, somehow found the money to pay for rental fences to close off parks in DC that never had a fence that you could literally walk onto the grass from the sidewalk. Strange.
The constitution/country was founded on the intent of balanced budgeting and govt NOT involved in and paying for man/most things its paying for (wasting monies on). That may be the America the previous poster meant.
Johnson has been Speaker for mere days. A better analogy than turning an aircraft carrier is that he has to herd 435 cats through a narrow door.
You are aware that he is not the king.
If you feel like venting some ire, you might want to find out what committee chairmen failed to launch their part of the 12-part budget.
Of course they did! It’s not THEIR MONEY they’re spending! What do they care that ‘We The People’ wanted it shut down?
Feckless Quislings! *SPIT*
“We all know it’s just not possible to walk around in the woods without someone in polyester pants standing guard!”
LOL! Love that. :)
Fedzilla NEVER shuts down.
In the end, 209 Democrats and 127 Republicans joined to pass the bill. Ninety-three Republicans opposed it, as did two Democrats.
If McCarthy were still Speaker, would this have been sufficient to oust him all over again?
