Los Angeles commuters bracing for traffic nightmare as fire closes major freeway

Commuters in Los Angeles are bracing for an all-day traffic nightmare after one of the nation's busiest freeways was shut down indefinitely by a massive fire that erupted over the weekend in a storage yard underneath the normally congested artery.

The 10 Freeway, traversed by more than 300,000 drivers daily, remained closed in both directions as authorities suggested a series of detours and announced there is no timeline on when the thoroughfare through downtown Los Angeles will reopen.

"As we made clear yesterday, this was a huge fire and the damage will not be fixed in an instant," Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said during a news conference Monday morning. "Engineers have worked all night and are working right now to determine our path forward."

There were areas underneath the overpass being used for storage...

However, there were home people camped under the overpass and appear to have been going into the storage area.

Hardly anyone will admit that the fire was caused by the homeless people likely letting a fire get out of control, under the overpass.

The homeless mental cases were throwing pallets on the fire.

NOT A SINGLE STORY MAKES ANY REFERENCES TO THE HOMELESS LIVING WHERE THE FIRE STARTED.

I live in LA

It was a massive homeless camp, spread over blocks and blocks. That’s also true all over the downtown business districts in LA, despite a $2Billion bond passed a few years ago to provide “housing”. Nothing has been done. Typical example: There is an encampment [looks like a prison camp, incl. guard towers and barbed wired topped walls] down the street from me. It’s been “open” for two years at a cost of $4-5million, yet remains empty, but there’s plenty of city workers lounging around. Drugs/prostitution is not allowed, so no takers.

Our brainiacs in government also permitted storage of highly flammable materials, next to open flames in the homeless camp, underneath the major downtown freeway artery.

This was, like the burning of mansions in Brentwood a few years ago, entirely predictable and a direct result of the idiotic ideas that pass for policy in LA. They’ll now spend billions in “repairs” and a year or two from now, will be exactly the same as it was before the fire.

It definitely was caused by the BUMS. This would be a great opportunity for a conservative candidate to let people the millions of taxpayers that this “homeless situation is the fault of these cretins in charge.

Repukes are pussies, they’ll never do it.

They did at first, then stopped. They couldn't even call them homeless people, they used, the woke phrase "unhoused" people.

Thanks for the heads up. I will be coming to LA early next year to see my aunt and uncle. They moved there in 1978 when California was a great place to live. They are both in their late 80’s and cannot leave.

I could belive that...

There was another area near the marina freeway and 405 that was being used for storage of wiring, and cables for telecomm that had been there for years...

And a mysterious fire that eventually was attributed to a mentally ill homeless people starting it on fire...

Avoid downtown.

Skip Hollywood - it’s dirty and full of scumbags, there’s nothing really left of the “sights” anyway.

Go north past Malibu if you want to go to the beach, or down to Orange County. LA beaches are likewise infested with homeless/gangbangers.

Park in well-lit lots, near the entrance. Do not, under any circumstances, leave anything in your car.

Be prepared for long lines everywhere, trash-lined streets, rude and dangerous drivers, and heavy traffic at all times of the day/night. If you expect it, it’s not so much of a shock when you get it over and over.

If you stay in the burbs, you’ll be just fine. But keep your head on a swivel and don’t stay out past midnight.

Yeah, I posted about that one in a thread about the L.A. incident this AM. The ATL one was 2017. You’d think all the DOTs would have cleaned up their acts after the ATL event, but first Philly and now L.A. have had similar events.

It’s amazing to me that a homeless camp would have enough fuel to severely damage the overpass. Maybe an EV was involved.
