Commuters in Los Angeles are bracing for an all-day traffic nightmare after one of the nation's busiest freeways was shut down indefinitely by a massive fire that erupted over the weekend in a storage yard underneath the normally congested artery.
The 10 Freeway, traversed by more than 300,000 drivers daily, remained closed in both directions as authorities suggested a series of detours and announced there is no timeline on when the thoroughfare through downtown Los Angeles will reopen.
"As we made clear yesterday, this was a huge fire and the damage will not be fixed in an instant," Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said during a news conference Monday morning. "Engineers have worked all night and are working right now to determine our path forward."

They say it was a storage yard. Other sources say it was an extensive homeless camp, which makes more sense. Guess we’ll see in due course.

Why was the area undet the area being used?
If homeless did set the fire, they would never admit it.

Similar thing happened in the ATL several yrs ago.

All the rats will be heading to the 405, 105, 5 etc. It’s going to look like Armageddon traffic is happening...Of course it will be hard for some to tell any difference.
Try Imperial Hwy though south central LA.......With 200,000 more vehicles on Imperial, it should run pretty smoothly...

i expect a tender for a quick replacement of the overpass to be announced in the next few days. It will probably be done by the second week of December 2023 at latest.

If Newsom gets the Democrat nomination for president, this and CA homeless problem will be buried.
It definitely was caused by the BUMS. This would be a great opportunity for a conservative candidate to let people the millions of taxpayers that this “homeless situation is the fault of these cretins in charge. Obviously some lowlife let a fire for cooking or heating get out of control. Or a crack pipe.
To speed things up, they need to raise taxes in LA County to help the homeless and fix the freeway...
And mayor mental case of LA is suggesting everyone start using public transit!
