Can’t remember if it was Walgreens or CVS. But one of those retailers have removed all products from their shelves in Washington DC.
And replaced the items with PICTURES of the product. For obvious reasons.
If you want something, you then go tell someone you want to buy it.

Ther used to be more pictures of the items for sale. But shoplifters stole them as well.

I see an opportunity for an app. The pictures on the shelf of the product you want have a bar code. Shopping consists of using the app to scan the bar code onto your shopping basket. When finished shopping, you get a subtotal and tax and an opportunity to purchase. Successful purchase returns a square code to claim your goods from a backroom packaging operation. Scan the square code and an employee delivers you a cart with your purchases.
