Well the western empire fell due to barbarian invasion but the eastern empire lasted until 1453.
From 180 until 312 there were danged few effective emperors to help hold the empire together. Many were outright killed in battle against the barbarians or killed by the rivalries amongst their peers and soldiers. The western empire was regularly defeated and attacked, buying off invaders as best it could. The slide had started and was averted by the occasional rise of an emperor such as Valerian or Diocletian who backstopped the slide temporarily. I do think the tolerance and practice of homosexuality among the upper classes abetted that demise, perhaps as a symptom if not a direct cause..I do not think that homosexuality was all that prominent among the lower classes.
I think Mr. Johnson has a point.

I applaud the speaker’s willingness to stand up for Biblical principles.
However, from an historical perspective, the Roman emperors were notoriously debauched throughout most of the prosperous periods of the empire. Read Suetonius. Nero and Caligula engaged in bisexual acts but the empire still had many good economic years later on.
If he’s look at the Roman Empire’s collapse for historical parallels of collapse, there others such as border control, taxes, increased operating costs for government to maintain the army and bureaucracy.
A contributing factor for sure. As standards stretch and degrade, defenses to invasion crumble.
