The new Speaker of the House Mike Johnson once attributed the fall of the Roman Empire to homosexuality, resurfaced audio from 2008 has revealed.
Johnson suggests historians might consider the decline of Rome as partially related to a societal loss of morals and widespread homosexual behavior condoned during that period.
In the past, Johnson, a Louisiana Republican, has frequently disparaged homosexuality.
But it was during a radio interview he could be heard advocating for the criminalization of gay sex and went so far as to partially blame it for the fall of the Roman Empire.
Some credit to the fall of Rome to not only the deprivation of the society and the loss of morals, but also to the rampant homosexual behavior that was condoned by the society,' Johnson said.
'One of the primary sources of Johnson criticism has been his stance on LGBTQ issues, as he has been a consistent opponent of federal protections for same-sex marriage.
Johnson was once closely associated with Exodus International, a now-defunct group that promoted LGBTQ 'conversion therapy'.
The discredited practice aimed to change a person's sexual orientation or gender identity through various means, including prayer and counseling.
Exodus International was a highly controversial 'ex-gay' organization that ceased operations in 2013. The group's former president, Alan Chambers, issued an apology for the harm it had caused to the LGBTQ community.
Between 2006 and 2010, while Johnson was an attorney for the conservative legal advocacy group Alliance Defense Fund - an organization labeled as an extremist hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center because of its long-standing opposition to LGBTQ rights.

He’s confusing the Romans with the Greeks, who largely celebrated eros and what we would call debauchery. Rome fell due to the logistics of running a vast empire with an increasingly corrupt central government, and the erosive effects Christianity had on a system largely built and maintained by slavery. A few barbarian invasions and it finally collapsed under its own weight.
God's law and man's law are two different things.
The bible certainly associates that type of behavior with end times. Romans chapter one.
There was some tolerance for homosex in the Empire. They differentiated between the pitcher and catcher (so to speak). The latter was looked down upon, but the pitcher was not shamed. We also know that some of the Emperors such as Nero and Hadrian had their dalliances with the boys.

In the movie Spartacus, there is an allusion to homosexuality. Tony Curtis is a young male house slave. If you’re on the uptake, you suspect the master has him for sexual pleasure. Anyway, a legion of the Roman army marches by. The master said there is Rome. You must embrace it. You must love it. Tony Curtis realizes how sick and disgusting the whole thing is. The next thing you know, he makes his escape and joins Spartacus and the slave revolt.
“I’m Spartacus,” Tony Curtis says in a dramatic scene toward the end of the movie, joined by others.
The day may be coming when we will have the opportunity.

Generally, if you drill down into Roman history (something that few ever do)...you come to around 455 AD and a couple of Gothic rebellions that Rome handled badly. Twenty years into this era...the empire is officially on the books collapsed. But you can go over the hundred years prior to 455 AD, and find a dozen problems going.
Wild reckless social behavior was just one out of the dozen.

I think the real damage is the destruction of critical thinking and common sense.
Our survival and success as a species depends largely on our ability to apply our senses to situations and discern threats, opportunities and conditions - and make wise choices.
A key component of critical thinking is recognizing what is normal or familiar vs. what is abnormal or strange.
For example, being suspicious of a stranger or someone who looks different from us was a survival behavior for a million years of evolution - but in modern times we teach our children that such discrimination is a bad thing.
Homosexuality and so-called transexuality are clearly abnormalities, yet woke society punishes anyone who voices that opinion or acts accordingly. We are supposed to act like it’s normal.
When the rules of society are at odds with reality, this creates cognitive dissonance, and critical thinking and common sense are destroyed.
The next time modern generations face any sort of fight for survival, whether from war, famine, natural disaster or other - we will be completely ill equipped to win that fight if we regard as normal that which is abnormal.
These people have such short memories. They criticize Speaker Johnson for opposing same sex marriage at the exact same time as Obama et al opposed same sex marriage.
