New House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) raised eyebrows Friday after U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink posted a photo announcing that she met with the Speaker to discuss Ukraine aid.

“An honor to meet @SpeakerJohnson to discuss the importance of enabling Ukraine to stop Russian aggression in Europe,” Brink posted Friday morning in English and Ukrainian.

Here’s the deal I would accept to pass aid for Ukraine. It is imperative that the aid is paid for. Thus, the following federal agencies/organizations must be shuttered: FBI, BATF, ED, HUD, DHS. The Coast Guard and Border Patrol can remain after the shuttering DHS. This also solves the Mayorkas problem.

And yes, shuttering those organizations saves more money than the aid to Ukraine, but more importantly it gives Americans back some of their freedom. I really don’t give a chit about Ukraine. If they want to be slaughtered, then more power to them.

This meeting is disquieting.

He rather loudly said he only needed explanations and accounting to allow a Ukraine bill on the floor. That is rather a lot LESS than insisting on pay for it. So the Administration provides him some explanations and he becomes happy?

The only “pay for it” mechanism proposed so far is a cut in IRS agents, which the CBO clearly said does not pay for it, it costs more. There is nothing about the border, and there should not be. Any border money will be declared by the Administration to be pointed at housing in blue cities for the people Texas ships there. (BTW, should be shipping to Wisconsin and Michigan, not NY).

You have MANY GOP House members out there with their fingers in the wind.

“Johnson walks alone down a hallway. RAISING EYEBROWS!”

I suppose we will see that he “raised eyebrows” every time he goes out to lunch with someone, is seen talking on his cell phone, getting a cup of coffee in the breakroom, etc-the speculation borders on the hysterical...

The ONLY THING THAT MATTERS is whether any bill that lands on the floor has the support of the majority of the GOP conference.

Nothing else.

Meeting with people is part of the job.

As a delegate I meet with lots of people. Doesn’t mean I support them
Or I don’t. Sometimes I support some of their agenda but not other parts.

I have a hard time swallowing more money to Ukraine and you drive a hard bargain. Somehow I will learn to live with it. Deal!

breitbart.com——A new Gallup poll shows that a plurality of Americans now say the U.S. is giving too much aid to Ukraine, as reported by Breitbart News. It also comes as Ukraine’s counteroffensive against Russia has reached a stalemate, according to a top Ukrainian general.

“There will most likely be no deep and beautiful breakthrough,” Valery Zaluzhny, the commander-in-chief of Ukraine’s armed forces, told the Economist, according to Axios. The two sides have “reached the level of technology that puts us into a stalemate,” he reportedly said.

The stalled counteroffensive is despite the U.S. and Western allies sending billions in military equipment, as well as training Ukrainian forces.......amid a massive fight in Congress over continuing aid to Ukraine.

The U.S. has already committed at least $113 billion in aid to Ukraine since February 2022, when Russia invaded the country. The Biden administration requested an additional $24 billion more through the end of 2023, but House Republicans rejected that proposal.

Now, the Biden administration has asked for $61 billion more, as part of a $105 billion package that would include $14 billion for Israel.

This guy is going to stab us in the back over Ukraine.

People are tired of funding Ukraine.

He will end up only slightly better than McCarthy.
