Israel-Gaza war news: The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will use ‘sponge bombs’ as Israel begins its fight through a network of Hamas tunnels under Gaza, Telegraph has reported.
The ‘sponge bombs’ that Israel plans to use for the tunnel war, are not explosives, but chemical bombs that would be used to seal off gaps.
The ‘sponge bombs’ create a sudden explosion of foam that rapidly expands and then hardens. However, there has been no official confirmation from Israel on ‘sponge bombs’.
The army has set up a mock tunnel system at the Tze’Elim army base near the border with Gaza.
Tens of thousands of Hamas gunmen are thought to be lying in wait, most of them in the group’s sprawling tunnel networks, NYT reports.
‘Sponge bombs’ contain two liquids in a large plastic bag separated by a metal pole. The pole is extracted before the ‘bomb’ is thrown into its target causing the compounds to mix. The liquid turns into foam which expands and hardens to seal gaps.
The ‘sponge bomb’ would prevent soldiers being ambushed as they move further into the network, sealing off gaps through which Hamas could attack. The IDF was seen deploying these devices during exercises in a mock tunnel system near the Gaza border in 2021. There are potential complications with the underground arsenal. The ‘sponge bomb’ - a liquid emulsion - is hazardous to work with, and some Israeli soldiers have lost their sight through mishandling the mixture.
According to Telegraph report, specialised teams in the IDF’s engineering corps have been grouped into tunnel reconnaissance units and equipped with ground and aerial sensors, ground penetrating radar, and special drilling systems to locate tunnels...

Outraged critics claiming ‘chemical warfare’ in 3...2...1....
Silly. They will dig around it in a matter of days. They need to use mustard gas, napalm, and seawater flooding. And of course, many many Barnes Wallis style deep penetrating 10,000 pounders.
If it stays hard for over 4 hours, then what?
“The ‘sponge bombs’ create a sudden explosion of foam that rapidly expands and then hardens.”
Sounds like a great idea. I use the home repair stuff and it kicks butt.
Having this type of planning for such an offense against gaza makes me wonder why the hamas attack that was 2 years in the planning wasn’t picked up on by Israel who normally has excellent intel. Has anyone heard why they didn’t get word about such a large attack?
You can’t beat a people who can think this creatively.
My solution would be thermobaric.
I was hoping someone else read the headline like I did at first.
“Every thread has an article denier.”
No, they don’t :)
call 911
and they don’t just blow them, because???
This could be good psyops. The Islamofascistnazis hiding will pop up to avoid it and boom! Another one bites the dust
How about the 280mm Lepage Glue Gun? It glues a whole mob of Hamas together.
During WW2 in the Pacific on dealing with tunnel systems on Japanese held islands, explosives were used to seal tunnels and fire (via flame throwers) were used to remove all the oxygen from the tunnels. It worked then on an enemy that was sworn to never surrender. It and other tried and true methods should work in Gaza.
Perhaps, Israel can teach terrorists around the world that the problem with tunnels, is that they are hard to escape from and make wonderful ways of disposing of bodies so relatives can never get closure.
Seal them off in their tunnels like we did so successfully with Japanese troops on Iwo and Okinawa.
That costs money. Use seawater instead, there’s a sea right next to Gaza.
Hostages, collateral damage… also because if you have your own troops down in a tight tunnel system it’s a bad idea?
I disagree. Not that they can’t tunnel around it given enough time, but it is tactically useful in that a foam-closed cross tunnel can be safely ignored by intruding IDF troops on a patrol and they don’t have to leave troops behind at every cross tunnel to keep an eye on it. By the time Hamas can bypass it (and it will be a while if these tunnels are lined with concrete as reported) the IDF force that deployed it won’t be there - it’s highly useful on a short term tactical basis.
They shouldn’t be down in the tunnels. We didn’t send Marines crawling through every tunnel on Peleliu. Isolate and seal and starve. Every time an entrance is found, flood them with seawater, hit them with deep penetrating massive bombs, liberal use of napalm, poison gas, pump full of propane and detonate.
Actually, drill a deep hole and do a small underground nuke. I have stood on a plowshares site in Northern New Mexico and without the sealed wellhead and marker you’d never know. It shouldn’t make fallout or a crater if you plan it right.
