It would be nice for the GOP to steal a "historic first" from the Democrats by voting for the first Black Speaker of the House so Hakeem Jeffries doesn't eventually get it and all the LAAP-dog media fanfare that would go with it when it's a Democrat.
The Democrats made a big deal of Jeffries being the first African-American to be nominated for Speaker (I guess Donalds wasn't nominated until a later round of voting), so stealing the actual attainment of Speaker from Jeffries by choosing Byron Donalds would be a historic move for Republicans (which is probably why they won't do it).

It doesn't really matter now. The GOP has proved to be a political party in disarray and cannot continue to function as it has. It will become a minor party attached at the hip to the Dems, and that is the way most of them want it to be.
The GOP does not represent conservatives.
