Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman will stop making donations to the University of Pennsylvania over its lack of a response to Hamas’ attack on Israel, he said in an email sent Saturday.News of the email was first reported by the Daily Pennsylvanian, the student newspaper at Penn, which is a member of the Ivy League. Huntsman, who also served as a U.S. ambassador to Russia and China, sent the email to Penn President Liz Magill. He wrote the university had become “deeply adrift in ways that make it almost unrecognizable.”

Good for him! IF enough wealthy donors did this, it would send a loud clear message that supporting terrorists and not speaking out agaisnt their atrocities is not ok- silence is complicity!
I suspect that Ivy league presidents are intimated by the Muslim students and teachers. Islamophobia trumps anti Semitism on the intersectional totem pole of victimhood. Not to mention, Muslims tend to chop the heads off of those who insult Mohammed.
In my mid twenties I took a second job as a desk clerk in a crappy downtown Seattle hotel where Benaroya Hall now sits. I was amazed by the sheer numbers and crazy stories from “Welfare Migrants” I would check into the hotel every month from other states.
They came here for the benefits. This was in 1979-‘82, when I was there. Highest basic payments, then all of the add ons a Welfare Traveler settled down here! Back then they could get several grand in cash benefits plus a housing voucher, my hotel, and if you declared yourself an alcoholic there was a 500 monthly stipend. And that was waaay back then…
Not a chance. The implication was strong that white people are all racist. I refuse to play along.
NJIT took five days to put out a statement.
POISON Ivy League

LOL.. Never heard that expression before
but a good one.
I am thinking that this kind of backlash is going to be nationwide & not just from people with ALOT of money.
I DO BELIEVE THAT ANSWER IS YES

Roopa will begin her work with us on November 6th.
The donors may also have been responding to a call from Marc Rowan, the CEO of Apollo Global Management and chair of the Board of Overseers at the Wharton School, the university’s business school, who said donors should “close their checkbooks” until Magill and other university officials resign. Rowan made the comments on CNBC and in The Free Press.
Nothing changes till the cash flow stops.
On the other hand, there is now grant money for proper causes. We need to get busy.
“Do universities have to comment all wars going on in the world?”
Good point. There is no shortage of ignorant opinions from universities, actors, musicians and others. They seem compelled to have to offer their opinion for some reason.
Many other alumni stopped giving after Penn’s President excoriated in print the first Penn alumni in Penn’s nearly 300-year history to be elected President of the United States.
That was in 2016.
GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS THEN & NOW!
“Government schools — and some private — are CHEATING STUDENTS and TAXPAYERS.”
I did this 5 minute video in 2007 & wrote the description you see just above at that time.
Now, at the end of 2023, I SHOULD have added “...and are quickly destroying the IDEA & the PLACE called “AMERICA”.

As did Don Jr, Ivanka and Tiffany. The only one who didn't was Eric, who graduated from Georgetown. Another uni that deserves $0 patriot support.
Well, she's a Democrat, so...
Here's LIz with her mentor...
Totally Agree!
When things happen that trigger leftists, student groups take to the streets with slogans and banners. It is then incumbent on the University to comment as to whether the Uni as a whole supports the demonstrators' cause.
Oberlin College's dean of students took sides with an “anti-racism” hate campaign a few years ago against a family-owned bakery that tried to stop a black student from stealing from them. Amazingly, a jury penalized Oberlin millions of dollars (which Oberlin continued to sue to try to avoid paying).
The Jewish students at Penn may have standing to sue the Penn admin if any of them suffered hate speech or other discrimination from the Hamas supporters on campus; I don't know; but Penn has plenty of Jewish students, a famous law school, and plenty of lawyer alumni. I would encourage them to look into it. But the wheels of justice grind slowly.
That's why alumni withholding is a great idea. I would encourage any Penn alumni to follow Huntsman's lead. And Huntsman is, IIRC, not Jewish but Mormon.
Tenure is like labor unions. Both had good and useful purposes when they were first invented.
Like any other thing, people with evil intentions contort and corrupt any rules they don't like; and soon a noble institution starts doing the very thing it was invented to prevent.
