Amid mounting questions about Israel’s failure to anticipate the unprecedented attack by Hamas, an Egyptian intelligence official said his country had warned the Jewish state repeatedly about “something big” happening shortly.
The official said Israeli officials had been focused on their struggles in the West Bank and played down the threat from the militant group in Gaza.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government is made up of supporters of West Bank settlers who have demanded a crackdown in the face of a rising tide of violence in the area over the last 18 months.
“We have warned them an explosion of the situation is coming, and very soon, and it would be big. But they underestimated such warnings,” the Egyptian official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told the Associated Press.

I don’t follow Israeli politics close enough to know the details, I’ve always thought that, despite politics, Israel was well focused and prepared for their own self-defense, even if a bit brutal. Here we’ve seen they’ve become a paper tiger. No one armed, no one prepared, an absolute disaster. Our billions of dollars to them have clearly been wasted. Corruption or what?
For the first 25 years of her existence, Israel had major wars, so the country was pretty much on a constant war footing.
It’s been 50 years since Yom Kippur. And while they have had to deal with terrorists, that’s a different thing than taking on full armies from Arab States.
Those 50 years have gone by fast.
Normalcy bias is now gone forever.
This is now on like never before as a matter of survival on a literal biblical scale.

An Israeli official the other day indicated that Israel’s SIGINT operation (pound for pound the best in the world) was not able to take advantage of as much intel as they normally get, because Iran/Hamas etc. know this and rather than communicate over the air, they used couriers and other means that weren’t susceptible to interception.
Maybe the people who should have been listening weren't the best qualified but were politically connected or nepotism hires.
In fact, US intel may have assured Israeli intelligence that the threat level was low.
Another theory is that Netanyahu allowed this, because he thought it would unite the nation behind him (as often happens in war), and allow him to take out Gaza.
But who really knows what the world's various deep states and intel communities are up to?
We've come to rely on great technology, so the enemy uses old-fashioned techniques as a work around.

There are some who think Netanyahu’s government might have let it happen to deal a blow to his own left wing appeasers. Now they have no way to argue that Netanyahu can’t take a hard line in dealing with the problem.
I’d say WW3 is ~85% likely at this point. The questions are where will it be fought, with what intensity and weaponry and what will happen to the very weak social and political fabric of the USA during such an event.
Focused on the Climate Crisis and ignored everything else ?
Roosevelt has his endgame a good one fighting Nazi Germany sadly created out of aftermath of the war we should have avoided (World War I).
And that drove him maybe even more than grasping the notion of a sneak attack at Pearl Harbor.
Bibi have a distracting endgame here?
It's the "element of surprise" that catches you flat footed.
With millions of foreign military age men coming into the US, millions of Islamic cult members, I think it will be hard to keep the war off our shores when it comes.
But still - how did they plan, stage and execute something of this magnitude and not get seen? Hundreds, thousands really, had to have known.

My bet is since Mossad works closely with MI6 and the CIA, is that Netanyahu was purposely kept in the dark by deep state operatives. Remember, $6B in assets unfrozen, $75M just given to the Palestinians days before the attack and Biden giving Netanyahu the sign of the cross in their last meeting on September 20th.
