Police on Wednesday arrested five Orthodox Jews on suspicion of spitting at Christian worshippers in the Old City of Jerusalem, amid a rise in incidents targeting priests and pilgrims in the capital.
At the same time, National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir said in an interview: “I still think spitting at Christians is not a criminal case. I think we need to act on it through instruction and education. Not everything justifies an arrest.”

If it’s not a crime then pounding the s*** out of someone for spitting on you should not be a crime either.
Spitting “at” is not the same thing as “spitting on.”
I am sure I have spat at everyone in the world, if taking into account the various directions I’ve spat, over the years. Of course, I didn’t spit on anyone in those directions.
It is highly unlikely that people a half world away even knew I spat at them.
It is equally unlikely that my spit actually reached that far.
Israel weighing the virtue signal vs the tourist $$
I guess they don’t follow the Leviticus teachings. I thought orthodox would follow the teachings of Moses.
Well then this police minister won’t mind taking a big, green hocker in his eye.
In most states it's battery
The leftist Israeli media is obsessed with this story because of the disgusting behavior of the tel-aviv leftists on Yom Kippur.
So the media here tries to whitewash it and turn the tables by amplifying something that some orthodox jews did.
They do the same here with the “settlers”
terrorists will murder 2-3 Israelis with no response from the govt so the Israelis take the law into their own hands and the media plays it off as “revenge” attacks.
the big difference is that the leftist terrorists’ are attacking as part of an organized attack. what happened in Jerusalem was a few individuals acting on their own. It wasn;t organized by an “activist” group
Yes- try ripping on their curls or tearing off their yamaka.
See how far you get.
This happens to a Jew in NY or danged near anywhere it’s front page news, a hate speech crime and a life of writing on the chalkboard 10,000 times,”I will not spit at Jews.”
Granted this is Israel but Jews, like blacks and trans and gays and whomever else are a protected class. Hate antics are not tolerated.
It’s always easy to spit on a Christian. Turn the other cheek right?
Hawk loogys in Itamars eye until he changes his mind.
Good catch and these 5 will pay and they were condemded by all rabbis and leadership in Israel.. Fact, it is 5 out of a half a million Jews who visited the Wailing Wall these days. Nevertheless, this is not the "reason" we have persecuted that besieged people for 2000 years.
They follow the Talmud. You should read it sometime.
You think the Koran is rough?....whew
Some Jews have a hard time of differentiating their enemies from their allies.
The Talmudists leadership have denounced them.
Exactly what I thought - this doesn’t look good for tourists, many of whom are religious pilgrims who wish to see the Holy Land.
My family hopes to plan a trip to Israel in the next two years, including Jerusalem - but this gives us second thoughts - we are mixed Christian and Jewish.

Israeli leaders condemn disrespect towards Christians in Jerusalem
A video of Jewish worshipers spitting at a cross borne by a Christian group in Jerusalem has brought condemnation from Israeli leaders.

My take: Yes and no. To those of us on the outside looking in, it's easy to see the phrase "Orthodox Jews" and think you've got their beliefs figured out. But the more I learn about them the more it seems to me that "Orthodox" is a broader term than I thought and within it are various sects that believe different things. I wouldn't say it's analogous to Protestants having different denominations -- that's too diverse. It's more like Roman Catholics having different orders (i.e. Augustinian Order, Jesuit Order). These different sects have various levels of importance on even the teachings of Moses (Pentateuch). Yes, in all cases the Talmud plays a role -- in some sects the Talmud is basically the only role. In other sects the Pentateuch is of top importance (with modern tweaks for things like no more killing the non-believers) with the Talmud being secondary to help better understand the Pentateuch. (Analogous to us Protestants being all about Sola Scriptura, but every now and then looking at commentaries, particularly older commentaries.)
No one has the corner on idiots.
People, in general, suck. All in all, it was handled as well as can be expected.
Yes and leaving life long marks on them as a reminder not to do it again.
