It’s confirmed. Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), booted as the Speaker of the House of Representatives today, will not run again for his former office. The gavel will be passed onto someone who can obtain 218 votes at some point within the next few days without going multiple rounds with Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and his posse.

“Personally, I think it’s more likely the Democrats will take the House in 2024.”
Personally, I don’t think you have a clue how the vote will turn out.
Tens upon tens of millions of voters; do you know them all, to get a read on how they think? Will they all be clamoring for even higher gas prices? More inflation? More living from paycheck to paycheck? More illegal invaders?
.
All McCarthy had to do was be honest before running.
He should have said, I’ll fight for Joe to get every penny of Spending he requests.
I’ll fight to see Ukraine gets more money than they request even.
I’ll fight so there’s no timetable or limits on Ukraine spending.
Instead he said he was going to shut down then spending, he was going to bring fiscal responsibility, he was going stop the crazy weaponized agencies. Power of the purse.
He was just a Whip for Joe Biden.
I’m someone who hasn’t been that hard on McCarthy. He did keep some of the promises he made to conservatives when becoming Speaker, most importantly, to my mind, being the oversight investigations.
But if Trump is reelected next year and does what needs to be done, he’s going to need a much more aggressive and much more MAGA-centered Republican caucus in Congress. If this moves the conference in that direction, then it will be a good thing. And if that happens, then no hard feelings towards McCarthy as far as I’m concerned. He served his purpose.
But he’s not the one to take the Republican conference to the next step. Perhaps that’s what Trump had in mind when he supported McCarthy and brokered the deal that got him elected Speaker earlier this year. Some things just have to be done a step at a time.
How would that be any different than McCarthy?
You’re right. People are sick of the uniparty.
While watching McCarthy’s “dindunuffinwrong speech” on Newsmax... I just had a horrid thought. He may not be running for speaker again...
but I bet he runs for president in 2028. I’d bank on it. He’s the arrogant type. It would figure.
“He’s said he doesn’t want the job.”
He is using the reluctant virgin ploy. They all do that. If elected to the office, he would jump at it.
How about Byron Donalds?
Instead he made a deal with Joe Biden. That's on him.
Yep, exactly. Kevin was put in there by 'DT', and he is taken out by 'DT'. All part of the show.
Please pass the popcorn...
No. He is still a sitting member of the House of Representatives.
.
That’s exactly what happened.
I think that’s his third deal with Joe Biden.
Joe got everything he wanted on all three deals.
.
I am listening to his speech. He sure is a cocky SOB. Defiant to the end.
I am listening to the media meltdown over this on the news channels, very silly. The country is not gonna collapse over a couple days while they find a reliable replacement or McCarthy. Once a replacement is found, it’ll be back to normal business operations, but hopefully not such a losing surrender mentality that McCarthy was carrying forward.
Why should he care. He keeps the speaker pay for the rest of his political life just like Nancy gets too. They both can sit in the back taking notes.
Good!
Nope. It literally can be anybody.
Can someone confirm to me whether border security was in the bill that got signed last week? I know that Dems went on TV claiming that they got EVERYTHING they wanted, and I know that Border security was not something they wanted so whats the story on that
No, there is no rule the Speaker has to be a member of Congress
