WHY IS DESANTIS TANKING? A new poll Wednesday from the University of New Hampshire shook up the world of political obsessives who watch each twist and turn in the race for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. No, there was no change at the top — former President Donald Trump is still in the lead in New Hampshire, 26 points ahead of the nearest competitor. The news was that Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), for a long time Trump's chief rival, has slipped to fifth place in New Hampshire, the second state to vote in the GOP primary contest.
Fifth place! How did that happen? How did DeSantis come to trail not only Trump, with 39% of the vote, but, in order, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, with 13%; former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, with 12%; and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, with 11%? DeSantis's 10% of the vote in New Hampshire puts him at what might be called the bottom of the second tier. The first tier, of course, is Trump all by himself. The second tier is the group from Ramaswamy to DeSantis. After that, the third tier is Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), with 6%, former Vice President Mike Pence, with 2%, and Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND) and former Texas Rep. Will Hurd, with 1% each.
The first thing to consider is whether the new Granite State poll is an outlier. The answer is, it appears not. There haven't been many polls in New Hampshire — just one so far this month, two in August, and three in July — but DeSantis has been bobbing around between 8% and 11% since the summer. Before that, in polls going back to January, he was significantly higher.

Unless something should happen to Trump, Desantis will withdraw in March before the Fl Primary at the latest. Otherwise he will suffer the incredible embarrassment of being a sitting governor who lost the primary in his own state.
The only state there is any outside chance Trump could lose it would be Iowa because of the caucus structure that state is a wildcard.
However it has a horrible history of actually picking the final nominee.
I doubt Trump will lose Iowa but even if he does it won’t change the overall outcome.
When it’s all said and done Trump will be the nominee receiving well over 60%. If not over 70% of the primary votes
His team failed to create, build and maintain a relationship with primary voters. The tried too hard to pursue the few big dollar donors, because, in the end, they’re only a few votes. They needed support of a few dollars from millions, instead they got millions from a few. The only winners will be the consultants.
The more I see him campaign the more I think that he probably wouldn’t have made it even if he had waited until 2028. What he really needs is a personality transplant.
Iowa is weird. So somebody like Tim Scott may win Iowa. But it doesn't matter.
Exactly the caucus system makes IOWA a crazy place... but it’s record of actually picking the nominee in a contested race is insanely poor.. I think the eventual nominee has only won Iowa twice (when the race was contested), at least on the Republican side since 1972.
1976 when Ford won and 2000 when George W Bush won
Obama won Iowa in 2008. But we’re not talking about Democrats, I guess.
“.. I think the eventual nominee has only won Iowa twice (when the race was contested), at least on the Republican side since 1972.”
Pretty clear I stated the republican side.
Yep.
Trump should say he's now pro-choice to appeal to female voters. But I don't think that'll work because the SCOTUS overhauled Roe vs Wade.
glad he didn’t wait. we need real help now, and years to come.
not his tease show, I’m not running, while acting like he’s running, not this I’m a great gov and would make a good president even though he isn’t a great governor, helped kill many in his state with covid vax push he did, and allowing illegals to run amuck in his state harming state Citizens, even though he has authority to deport or otherwise detained.
Goes to show desantis doesn’t give a darn about Citizens, just stepping up the ladder for himself.
He tries too hard to come across as a "common man" with his sleeveless vests (in hot and humid Florida), off the rack bluejeans, funny looking shoes and thus projects a level of cringe we have not seen since Jeb Bush.
Trump never pretended to be something that he is not. He dresses the same he did when he was a slick NYC businessman. He even wears a business suit and loud tie when eating a corn dog at some Iowa fair and Americans love him for that.
Three solid reasons right there.
Originally I had no antipathy towards Gov. DeSantis. But, then (as you pointed out) he chose personal ambition over the welfare of the country.
Sad. He coulda been a contender.
“have i missed anything important?”
I believe the mainstream media’s ability to control and shape the news is declining. The rise of alternatives outside of their control has much to do with this.
The best example I can cite is “Sundance” at The Conservative Treehouse. He has been all over outing DeSantis as an artificial construct. Basically, a front man or a prop for those funding his campaign.
Consider some of the losers we have been asked to support in the past: Jeb Bush, Mitt Romney, John McCain. These people were all tools of “The Powers That Be”.
Maybe just enough of us are now clued into how the game is rigged to abort DeSantis’ lift off on the launchpad.
people like that don’t wake up unless they get right with God.
Self delusion is a choice, a selfish choice, it’s a matter of not having died to one’s self and let God lead.
People like desantis can’t be a great leader, because they don’t want to be a great follower of Our Lord, in Whom all the wisdom, power, timing, etc etc lies.
But we are disgusted with those who back RDS. And for good reason. The Bush wing of the party is a mealy-mouthed bunch who see themselves as elite gentry, part of the power structure of the global new world order. That they picked RDS as their guy is telling. That RDS let them persuade him to be their guy to take out Trump is even moreso.
It's been an epic fail. He needs to throw in the towel, back Trump unconditionally and go back home and try to be a good governor once again. If he doesn't, he'll not win again anywhere.
“There may have been a spiritual one at some point in the past but I think we are beyond that now and under God’s judgement. I don’t see a turn around.”

The current state of affairs in this nation and the world serve to support that statement.
Jeremiah 18:
15 Because my people have forgotten me, sacrificing in vain, and stumbling in their ways, in ancient paths, to walk by them in a way not trodden:
16 That their land might be given up to desolation, and to a perpetual hissing: every one that shall pass by it, shall be astonished, and wag his head. 17 As a burning will I scatter them before the enemy: I will shew them the back, and not the face, in the day of their destruction. 18 And they said: Come, and let us invent devices against Jeremias: for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet: come, and let us strike him with the tongue, and let us give no heed to all his words. 19 Give heed to me, O Lord, and hear the voice of my adversaries. 20 Shall evil be rendered for good, because they have digged a pit for my soul? Remember that I have stood in thy sight, to speak good for them, and to turn away thy indignation from them.
21 Therefore deliver up their children to famine, and bring them into the hands of the sword: let their wives be bereaved of children and widows: and let their husbands be slain by death: let their young men be stabbed with the sword in battle. 22 Let a cry be heard out of their houses: for thou shalt bring the robber upon them suddenly: because they have digged a pit to take me, and have hid snares for my feet. 23 But thou, O Lord, knowest all their counsel against me unto death: forgive not their iniquity, and let not their sin be blotted out from thy sight: let them be overthrown before thy eyes, in the time of thy wrath do thou destroy them.
He hasn’t since
