WHY IS DESANTIS TANKING? A new poll Wednesday from the University of New Hampshire shook up the world of political obsessives who watch each twist and turn in the race for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. No, there was no change at the top — former President Donald Trump is still in the lead in New Hampshire, 26 points ahead of the nearest competitor. The news was that Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), for a long time Trump's chief rival, has slipped to fifth place in New Hampshire, the second state to vote in the GOP primary contest.
Fifth place! How did that happen? How did DeSantis come to trail not only Trump, with 39% of the vote, but, in order, entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, with 13%; former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, with 12%; and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, with 11%? DeSantis's 10% of the vote in New Hampshire puts him at what might be called the bottom of the second tier. The first tier, of course, is Trump all by himself. The second tier is the group from Ramaswamy to DeSantis. After that, the third tier is Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), with 6%, former Vice President Mike Pence, with 2%, and Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND) and former Texas Rep. Will Hurd, with 1% each.
The first thing to consider is whether the new Granite State poll is an outlier. The answer is, it appears not. There haven't been many polls in New Hampshire — just one so far this month, two in August, and three in July — but DeSantis has been bobbing around between 8% and 11% since the summer. Before that, in polls going back to January, he was significantly higher.

Nope, not deflecting at all. Yours was not a straight-forward question. It was another attempt to prove there's something extraordinary in Ron DeSantis -- when there is nothing even close to it .
I simply proved it.
Trump upped his game.
So it's probably wise for DeSantis to stay in the race in case they wind up putting Trump in handcuffs. What pathetic low-life losers you "just wait til" people are.
But you did seem to imply that DeSantis performed no better than a meth addict would.

He’s a great governor. There are many fine governors who didn’t go national.
Because he’s a deep state tool and most people have realized it.
I think that about covers it.

From first victory speech as governor, DeSantis thanks Trump at 6:41+
Sometimes it pays to do some research before asserting your opinion as truth when it wasn’t true at all.
What’s easy to miss is that it’s not so much the candidate that’s the issue, as the system. And Trump is unique among all other candidates in that he isn’t controlled by the system. All the other candidates are controlled to some degree and that’s why, when people say “There’s Trump, and then there’s everyone else”, it’s not just some boast. It’s an honest analysis of the situation.
Until our political system is reformed in some way, it’s safe to say that any candidate running for president is controlled or compromised. The system is set up to weed out anyone who isn’t before we ever even get to primary season. Trump is the exception that proves the rule.
Under certain circumstances, DeSantis might be a competent chief executive. But he’s not a leader, and he’s not a visionary and he’s not willing or able to defy the Uniparty on important policy issues. If he were, his campaign would have run out of money before it ever got off the ground.
So how will Trump win?
“So it’s probably wise for DeSantis to stay in the race in case they wind up putting Trump in handcuffs.”
If that happens there will not be any elections...it amazes me how many people are blind to where we are as a “nation” at this time. We are in total collapse...Trump is literally the only hope we have to reasonably survive...wake up. Democrats are not going to give up power, they are not going to get nicer, more honest or moral. They will go the other way no matter what happens...
DeSantis is also tanking because he lied to his donors, telling them he wasn’t running for President. Many of these same donors came forward and said they wouldn’t have donated to him if they knew he was going to run against Trump.
He’s playing the part of this year’s Bush clan entry. If he acted as though he would be President like he is Governor, he’d be in a better spot, IMHO.
So how will anyone else win?

I have my opinion. And that will be that.
You're right. So be it. It looks like the primaries are pretty much over. Even if Trump does not win Iowa. Mayor Pete won Iowa. Santorum won Iowa in 2012, I think. So Iowa isn't that important.
I'm just saying from a strategy perspective, if I was DeSantis, why it might be wise to stay in the run longer even if Trump seems like the sure win.
Why?
It’s not complicated….
He’s not Trump.
You can dress it up 19 ways to Sunday, but when you distill it all down, that’s it.
“I’m just like that guy you really like, but somehow I’m better.”
