U.S. military officials are searching for a missing F-35 jet after a "mishap" caused its pilot to eject on Sunday afternoon.

Joint Base Charleston said on Facebook that the aircraft was a Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II belonging to Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort. The pilot ejected safely and was transported to a local medical center.

The base is working with Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort to help locate the missing aircraft. Emergency response teams have been deployed to find the jet.

Wouldn’t you expect one to deactivate the other? Pulling the handles should shut everything down. Or so I would have designed it.

My money is on the plane having been transported to shuttle bay 4 of the Starship Enterprise. We should check with Scotty.

I keep picturing the scene in The Right Stuff where Gus Grissom is almost in tears insisting the hatch on his capsule blew open because of a mechanical malfunction. Ejected leaving the aircraft on "autopilot"? This F35 pilot has some splainin' to do.

Very strange that the wingman wouldn't have witnessed the final flight. The pilot also would know the altitude, heading and remaining fuel at the time of ejection.

If it struck dry land there would be fire and smoke plume. It is probably in one of the two lakes in the vicinity. Remember, ValuJet put a DC-9 in the Everglade. The wreckage was under the pond scum.

From Wikipedia:"A group of sightseers in a small private plane also witnessed the crash and provided a nearly identical account, stating that Flight 592 seemed to "disappear" after hitting the swamp and they could see nothing but scattered small debris, part of an engine, and a large pool of jet fuel near the crash site."

Imagine the debriefing of that pilot will be extremely intense.

And don’t they track the planes on radar when they’re in flight? Don’t the planes have a transponder communication device of some sort?

Maybe they don’t have these features. I was just thinking even if the pilot hit the ejector seat and the plane was still flying but they’d be able to find it.

If that plane kept flying with no pilot wouldn’t it eventually be picked up by air traffic controllers , even civilian air traffic controllers?

This is getting suspicious. Check Iranian military sites.

The Chinese hacked the avionics, ejected the pilot and flew it to a new Chinese base in Central America. It’s most likely already in China.

Agreed. At this point, I’d believe they’d report an encounter with an alien spaceship. And a tractor beam. And nobody would care.

“Don’t the planes have a transponder communication device of some sort?”

From what I understand military aircraft can turn off their transponder to hide. But there better be a very good reason to do it, especially if they are over uncontrolled airspace. They would be a hazard to civilian traffic if they did.

But I would think they would have some kind of emergency tracking system in place so if this happens they themselves could find it...

Either China or Russia. If Russia, it was flown to Cuba. If China, it went to their base in Central America.

Ok

Here is my thoughts on this

I don’t think this plane got hacked

This isn’t a radio control cheap car. The us has the best encryption. If they did get hacked then oh boy we in trouble

But according to NotK_US on Twitter

Seems they are searching south of Stuckey

I don’t know who NotK_US is but he seems to be following search planes.

Not sure how accurate this is but any case just wanted to let you guys know

Really kinda hard to believe they don’t know where a $200,000,000 piece of military equipment is. Even harder to believe that they announced it.

You may rest assured that they are lying ... because that's what they do.
