Former President Donald Trump has drawn outrage from pro-life conservatives after he panned a six-week abortion ban championed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as “terrible.”
“I think what he did is a terrible thing and a terrible mistake,” Trump, 77, told NBC’s “Meet the Press” when asked about the policy in an interview that aired Sunday.
The 45th president’s remarks triggered backlash among anti-abortion activists, including from groups like Live Action and Students for Life,***
“Pathetic and shameful. Trump is actively attacking the very pro-life laws made possible by Roe’s overturning,” Lila Rose of Live Action said on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Heartbeat Laws have saved thousands of babies. But Trump wants to compromise on babies’ lives so pro-abort Dems ‘like him.’ Trump should not be the GOP nominee.
***
The Susan B. Anthony List, which has pushed candidates to call for a national abortion ban — and criticized candidates like DeSantis who have declined to do so — initially had a tame response to Trump.
“We’re at a moment where we need a human rights advocate, someone who is dedicated to saving the lives of children and serving mothers in need. Every single candidate should be clear on how they plan to do that,” Marjorie Dannenfelser, SBA president, said in a statement.
“Anything later than a 15 week protection for babies in the womb (when science proves they can feel pain) as a national minimum standard makes no sense.”
We've already seen the disastrous results of Donald Trump compromising with Democrats: over $7 trillion in new debt, an unfinished border wall, and the jailbreak First Step Act letting violent criminals back on to the streets.
***
“Republicans across the country know that Ron DeSantis will never back down.”

—> What’s true is that Trump ended Roe and gave pro-lifers the best opportunity in 50 years to pass laws at the state level to reduce or eliminate abortion.
Yes.
And taking Roe out of the hands of an unelected SC,
and putting it back into the people’s hands, leads to more
responsive government.
And it tips the first domino against an unwritten “right to privacy” being used to make SC decisions.

Why are you dragging Graham into the argument? Stay focused. Stay on Topic.
The problem here is how Trump is critical of Florida and the 6 week bill DeSantis signed into law.
No one forced Trump into going there. No one forced Trump into spewing his hatred against DeSantis.
And no one forced Trump into stating he would negotiate with Democrats regarding abortion.

Sounds like it’s a law that legalizes murder for the first 6 weeks of life. Tomato, Tomatoe.

Sorry but YOU JOINED A FORUM ON A CERTAIN DATE is not an argumentActually it is a perfectly good argument.
Your lately-arrived racialist posting is very strong evidence against you.

Trump’s judicial nominees overturned Roe Vs Wade.
DeSantis will improve his primary chances with this position.
Trump is positioning himself for November 24.
Yes. He puts votes ahead of Pro Life purity.
But it was Trump’s SCOTUS people who overturned Roe V Wade. You have to POTUS to do that. Not a November loser.

Everyone has a mixed record. Bushes also gave us Clarence Thomas and Sam Alito. So there’s that.
For whatever reason, some judges thought to be conservative, become more liberal when placed on the Supreme Court.
Reagan gave us Sandra Day O’Connor, who was not truly conservative on the court. We could go down the list, and we would see GOP nominees to the Supreme Court are a roll of the dice.
Even Trump’s picks, have been criticized here on Free Republic, for their rulings in some cases. So there’s that too.

Before you ride the lightning - let me remind you that this thread is an open debate about abortion and the differences between Trump and DeSantis. And not a chance for you to go all racist.
So bye for now. Until you re-register again as a retread. But remember - keep your racist opinions off the forum.

It depends on the state
But as a national issue I don’t think Americans are ready for it. Letting the states vote is the way to go

Nope, he has 3 exceptions which he does let them ask him, he tells them about it and he says it forcefully. He doesn’t let them frame the issue at all! Master Class, period. Trump was on his game at the meet the press interview. The lady interviewing was completely outclassed (She was rude but fair). It Trump does this in the general election and he does more of the interviews I think he may be able to overwhelm the steal. Desanctus doesn’t get it and will fall into the same trap as the others. A month into the election he’ll come off as a defender of rape and incest. Trump is on his game!

Typical Democrat talking point: call your opponent a racist when you have no argument The argument *is* that you are a racist. And it appears pretty clear that you are. There is nothing else to discern from your remarks other than you are a racist.

“Pointing out crime statistics = racist”
You are not even trying, democrats
To: Rattlesnake_Snook
blacks/latinos make up the majority of crime against whites? true or false? As an analogy, the left plays up the "systemic" white-on-black murders as a reason to defund the police and such. But those make up a very small portion of murders -- thus the end result of their mantra is more violent crime in all racial combinations.
The same with the mantra of justifying abortion for rape when it's less than 1% of abortions. Ain't 67 million abortions in 50 years enough for you? That's literally 11 times the # of Holocaust victims!!!
That being said, abortion is now a state issue which is where it belongs. Any talk about banning it federally is unconstitutional. At the state level I'd be all for banning abortion and, if the baby is adopted, requiring both the sperm donor and egg donor pay child payments to the foster home/orphanage. That would greatly reduce the # of unplanned pregnancies.

So you are saying latinos/blacks commit LESS crime than white people? Really? Really?
To: Rattlesnake_Snook
No, I’m saying you said this:
“I wonder if years from now a white woman being raped by a black or latino man and about to be killed by him will be thinking in her last few seconds of life “boy I sure am glad those republicans years ago campaigned on how we need to save minority babies and they stopped this fine fellow from being aborted”
That is racist, period.

If you ever wanted to know how influential billionaire donors and the professional grift is amid the pro-life movement, this is a case study in the insanity of it.
President Donald John Trump was the most pro-life President in U.S. history. President Trump outlined the platform policy of returning the issue of abortion to the states, and constructed all political endeavors to deliver on that pledge. President Trump was the first president to speak at the March for Life events in Washington DC and hold pro-life supporting events at the White House.
Additionally, President Trump appointed three conservative pro-life judges to the Supreme Court, with the intention of overturning the Roe -v- Wade decision and returning the issue of abortion to the states. This was and is the conservative position, and the goal of the pro-life movement as it was articulated. In 2022, in the Dobbs decision, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of overturning Roe -v- Wade and the abortion issue was successfully return to the states as promised.
Since entering politics, the position of candidate Trump and then President Trump has never changed. It is the same federalist position he holds today as outlined by the Washington Post:
[…] “President Donald J. Trump believes that the Supreme Court, led by the three Justices which he supported, got it right when they ruled this is an issue that should be decided at the State level,” Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said in a statement. “Republicans have been trying to get this done for 50 years, but were unable to do so. President Trump, who is considered the most pro-life President in history, got it done. He will continue these policies when reelected to the White House. Like President Reagan before him, President Trump supports exceptions for rape, incest and life of the mother.” (more)
However, Lila Rose, President and Founder of the Live Action network, is now deriding President Trump because he does not support reinstituting federal control over the issue of abortion and campaigning on a non-federalist platform of a nationwide abortion ban.
Apparently, Lila Rose is supporting Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who recently used the Supreme Court decision, ironically made possible by President Donald Trump, to construct a 6-week abortion ban law in Florida. Oddly enough, a legislative outcome Ron DeSantis is also not promoting as part of his “book tour” and national stealth campaign.
Ms. Rose, in her official capacity as president of the Live Action organization appears to be influenced by the same billionaire donor class funding that supports the candidacy of Ron DeSantis. Despite President Trump delivering the results of the pro-life movement, Mrs. Rose is now deriding the President who delivered the outcome of her advocacy, saying it -and he- was just not good enough.
Example – In January 2018, President Donald Trump spoke to pro-life supporters from the Rose Garden at the White House which was shown live on video at the 45h annual March for Life. President Trump’s speech marked the first time in the event’s history that a sitting president had addressed the crowd live via video feed. Previous Republican presidents, including Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush, spoke to the marchers by phone.
Try to find a picture of Ron DeSantis attending the Washington DC March for Life event and you will not find one. He never attended. However, in the era of billionaire manipulation, fake political constructs to manufacture astroturf support, and political grift that flows as an outcome of the ‘trillions at stake’, even the pro-life movement will align in their financial best interests against the most pro-life president in U.S. history.
Sometimes you just end up shaking your head.
The love of money is the root of all evil, and even the unborn life is disregarded in the chase.

if the latinos/blacks population grows, we will have more minority-on-white crime and more democratic voters
That is truth, not racism

Deflect, deflect, deflect. Is that all you Angry Trumpers can do?
I just put down some other Angry Trumper for trying to bring Lindsey Graham into the mix. And here you are blaming the Bushes.
Stay on the subject. The subject, once again, is how and why Trump has taken a personal stand against Florida.
