Trump says Biden is "not too old" to be president
Axios ^ | 09/14/2023 | Erin Doherty

Posted on 09/14/2023 1:02:23 PM PDT by thegagline

Former President Trump said in an interview airing Thursday that President Biden is "not too old" to be president — but that he's "incompetent."

***Trump, 77, is just a few years younger than Biden, 80, and has avoided criticizing Biden's age.

He's instead focused on Biden's "mental acuity," even as age has emerged as a top concern for voters ahead of 2024. Driving the news: "Age is interesting because some people are very sharp and some people do lose it, but you lose it at 40 and 50, also," Trump said on SiriusXM's "The Megyn Kelly Show."

"But no, he's not too old at all. He's grossly incompetent." Trump added that there are several world leaders who "were phenomenal in their 80s." "You know, there's great wisdom if you're not in a position like him. But if you go back 25 years, he wasn't the sharpest tack either," Trump said. What they're saying: "President Biden has succeeded where Donald Trump failed at every turn, and that evidently isn't sitting well with the former president," Biden campaign spokesperson Ammar Moussa said in a statement.

"President Biden's wisdom and experience has led to the most consequential presidency in decades, while Donald Trump continues to be haunted by his own historic failures." The big picture: Biden, the oldest sitting president, would be 86 at the end of a second term, as his age has become a focal point among voters.

77% of adults think Biden, 80, is too old to effectively serve for four more years, with 89% of Republicans holding that view and 69% of Democrats, an AP-NORC poll out last month found.

Just over half of all adults think that Trump is too old to effectively serve another term, with 71% of Democrats holding that view and 28% of Republicans.

He’s grossly incompetent.

Indeed we seen that with a few younger presidents Obama turns lights out locks door.

Many are in the race now

“ I think Biden is the only one who could beat Trump.”

Wow.

“The issue is going to be very important once the trials start. If there is truly damning evidence (still a big question) and it knocks Trump down or out…the race to replace Biden will really take off.”

Evidence of what?

Yes, it’s not an issue of age; rather it’s an issue of a diseased, demented, decaying mind. I know many folks in their late 80’s to mid-90’s who are mentally sharp, active, aware, and productive.

Its not the number of years, its the health of the brain. There have been some people in their 90s that are sharp as a tack (60 minutes once had a special on some WWII translators/spies, and they had a few people in their 90s - at least one was still an active College professor - who came across as extremely sharp people).
Biden's issue is, yes, he has always been dumb, and a sociopathic liar, but without a doubt his brain has crumbled the past few years. He wasn't able to campaign in 2020, and he can barely be trotted out to read from a teleprompter nowadays. I'm sure that his handlers have him hyped up on drugs, but, as I understand it, drugs can provide brief moments of lucidity, but over time they accelerate the aging of the brain. I'm sure that Biden has been taking these drugs these past few years, and at this point his brain is completely shot.

Its not the number of years, its the health of the brain. And Biden's brain is mush.

Not too old especially, just incompetent and poses a threat to America AND other countries. THAT should be enough!

You left out that Biden had invasive brain surgery at least once.

And Donald Trump is wrong this time: Brandon is way too old to be president!

Define your definition of "way too old" - given how old Reagan was by the time he left office and how old Donald Trump is currently, and would himself be 80 years old mid way through his next term if he is again elected.

Remember when the democrats screamed bloody murder that Reagan was “too old” when he was inaugurated at 70? There was even a magazine illustration of a dead Reagan on a hospital gurney.

“Consider the comment again. He is saying that 80 is not too old to be President, if you’re still competent, which Biden is not.”

I agree with you.

All hypothetical.

I know that being in the Trump echo chamber makes you wonder what could go wrong in ‘24. But, if you stick your head into the real world you will realize that it’s pretty likely that he loses….again.

You might want to expand your view a bit, as well as looking up some history on FJB-the dude was a real dumbass from day one-corrupt, too-the least devious thing he did was to make Jill his mistress while she was married-to a friend of his. Maybe it was karma when he had two serious brain injuries around 40 years ago-and nearly became the late senator Biden. He suffered permanent damage from that-as does anyone else that happens to-that is why he has always acted so weird.

If you check out his behavior in the senate, you see that he does not have the brains to be a senator-or a lawyer, for that matter-probably never did. And now, all the anti-depressants and other drugs he has likely taken for years are affecting his already uncertain cognitive abilities, so he is just plain up-front insane. Has little to nothing to do with age-look at Fetterman-same s***, younger guy-what do you think he’ll be like in just a few years and still a senator under 60? He isn’t competent now, but I guess that is okay because he isn’t “old”?

I live in a remote rural area-more than 1/2 of the people out here are what some people call retirement age-I’m one-but except for a small number of people who are seriously disabled, the rest of us are running our small businesses-bars, restaurants, ranches/farms, construction, etc-on/near our properties-our retirement dream was to run and work our own business-it is what we saved money for, and now we are doing it.

This isn’t the Villages, but are a couple of golf courses nearby if we are so inclined on our off-time-I’ll add that people are a lot healthier out here than in any cities-must be the work ethic-or the total lack of fast food places. My mechanic is a neighbor-his home, shop and goat pasture are right up the road from me-he just replaced the power steering pump on my 4x4-he always has plenty of work, so I was lucky to get in before next week. The guy is 75-but not overweight, he eats food he grows and he’s active, like most people out here, old or young. We do have some meth heads and cookers out here-they seem to die young...

Don’t make ASSumptions based on age-there are plenty of us who stay healthy, work and who wear it lightly-including a lot of public figures-like pres Trump, Thomas Sowell, Clarence Thomas, Alan Dershowitz-even the despised botox queen Pelosi is still sharp as evil can be...

Lbj dropped out and then his VP was trounced by Nixon. If Biden dropped out that late, Harris would really be the only option for reasons of incumbency and racial pecking orders and would probably get destroyed by Trump or anyone else.

Harris is their worst case scenario with Biden being the next worst. They can’t really extricate themselves from both of them, so Biden it will be unless he dies.

“his VP was trounced by Nixon”

Nixon trounced McGovern in 1972, but the 1968 result was closer. Nixon had about half a million more popular votes than Humphrey, although he did win in the Electoral College 301 to 191. (Wallace had 46 electoral votes.)

More “Biden this, Biden that” nonsense.

He’s being moved out. Focus on the future.

Trump is right. The issue is not age but competence. You can be competent at 80 and you can be incompetent at 60.

Not everyone is Clint Eastwood. You start to lose it when you get old. Obviously, we're seeing that with the current POTUS.

That's why I prefer the POTUS to be under the age of 70 but that's just me.
