New Mexico officials call for governor’s impeachment after firearms restriction

New Mexico state representatives Stefani Lord and John Block are calling for the impeachment of Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham after Grisham issued an emergency order suspending the right to carry firearms in public in and around Albuquerque, the state’s largest city.

The governor on Friday issued an emergency order suspending the right to carry firearms in public across Albuquerque and the surrounding county for at least 30 days amid a spate of gun violence.

“This is an abhorrent attempt at imposing a radical, progressive agenda on an unwilling populace. Rather than addressing crime at its core, Governor Grisham is restricting the rights of law-abiding gun owners,” the statement from Lord read.

Grisham said she felt compelled to act in response to gun deaths, including the fatal shooting of an 11-year-old boy outside a minor league baseball stadium this week.

The firearms suspension is tied to a threshold for violent crime rates that only the Albuquerque area currently meets. Police and licensed security guards are exempt from the temporary ban.

Violators could face civil penalties and a fine of up to $5,000, said a spokesperson for the governor, Caroline Sweeney.

>> Arrest the governor

In New Mexico? Good luck with that.

What WOULD be effective (IMO) is if a few respected conservative leaders in NM — maybe these two, I don’t know NM politics — would call for a day of civil disobedience in which hundreds (or more) of licensed, “clean” patriots assemble while obviously armed in an area where the “ban” is effective, but which before the ban it was OK to carry.

That would entail risks. Not everyone should participate. Carrying a cheap gun you don’t mind losing would be recommended.

Just my 2c.

Can folks pursue three paths? Impeachment, State Court, and Federal Court. Surely one of those with put a stop to the federal and state unconstitutional action by the governor.

If this doesn’t spark an armed protest at their capitol more rights will be lost.

Tijeras and some other communities here are pretty independent, dating back to the early 1600’s. We’re experts at ignoring government and taking care of business.

Once a paroled rapist from Michigan moved into a house out here. It burned down. When questioned, the Sheriff said “I’m glad the fire didn’t spread.”

Molly’s is closing, the owner died unexpectedly and the family doesn’t want to keep it going. An East Mountain fixture since 1952. Same family that has owned a series of bars since 1938.

Burger Boy is still going strong though!

Nice! I want to retire in Tijeras/Cedar Crest but my wife insists on Placitas or Corrales. I love living in the mountains but she loves the views of the Sandias.

It’s beautiful out here, but life is easier in Corrales and Placitas due to water issues. Also, we can have winters with lots of snow.

Maybe Exlax?

Leftists always overplay their hand. Even Ted Lieu and that POS twerp David Hogg spoke out against this.

I predict the Governor is going to walk this back, issue the usual Democrat non-apology apology, blame right-wing extremists for taking her remarks out of context, and quietly squash this directive.

Yep, she wants to disarm the good guys while letting the bad guys carry on as usual.

Same old. Same old.

Yet, when called to account, their response is something along the lines of, 'Who, me?' I have zero sympathy for them .
