Bishop Karen Oliveto sees her consecration in 2016 as a breaking point for some of the thousands of people who have made the once unthinkable decision to leave the United Methodist Church.
Oliveto is the church's first openly gay bishop and oversees congregations in Colorado, Montana, Utah, Wyoming and one church in Idaho. Her service defies long-standing rules in the denomination. Disregard for those church laws is fueling divisions that have already led to the exodus of about 20% of the United Methodist Church's congregations across the U.S. since disaffiliations began in 2019. The number of members who have left with their congregations isn't as clear, as the latest figures from 2021 don't reflect the total number of departures.

Insightfully and beautifully stated. Thank you.
Nationwide the number would triple in my opinion if they were not held hostage by the Methodist trust clause. Many just can't afford the exit cost.
Their members are leaving however so they will all die except in the most liberal areas in the coming years IMO.
Exactly.
I heard a priest observe that one could take blocks of wood, write "denominational" names on each, with a "traditional" versus "progressive" label written on each, stack them all, and cut the pile n half, separating them into two piles. He said the "traditional" are more alike between and among themselves, than they are to the similarly named denominations, such that there are now failing denominations and recovering denominations after the schisms. I find the image most apt.
She is one ugly lesbian.
Last year she attended the Amsterdam annual Hans Brinker Stick a Finger In A Dyke Day.
“How was Christ political ?”
Are you seriously that dim ??
This is not a snall thing and it reflects the end times scenario in the book of Revelations - the Holy Spirit is bringing the truly faithful out of the apostate denominations., for their iniquities are being exposed.
God accepts that our morals will and should affect our politics but politics should not affect our morals.
“I respect the people leaving who are standing for their beliefs. I wonder why they could not take over the entire church hierarchy. Are their really that many, a majority, of Methodists who want to be ruled by lesbian bishops?”
Among U.S. United Methodist Cpngregations the “Liberals” have a majority, but among all United Methodists worldwide, the “traditionalists” have a majority.
The traditionalists are the ones leaving the Liberal United Methodist denomination and forming a new denomination, which like the United Methodists will be global but unlike the United Methodists will not be Liberal. In the end, in terms of global membership the traditionalist denomination will be larger than the Liberal United Methodist.
I’m glad to see the traditional Wesleyans depart from the perverted wreckage that was created by “liberal” idiots. The Episcopalians could take a lesson from this.
Agree
“Leaving the natural affection is a sign God has turned one over to maximal self-delusion. It says a lot about what now typifies our society. We’ve mainstreamed spiritual dysfunction, and the road back is humanly impossible apart from turning from self-worship to worshipping the Creator.”
“UMC General Conference next Spring officially”
Disaffiliation of congregations & clergy will be officially recognized after General Conference.
“I think her posts are excellent.
I admire her courage and willingness to defend the truth.
The shameless pandering for Putin is a conservative embarrassment.”
Thank you for your kind words.
“Maybe let us know a bit more where you stand on this?”
Why? Toward what purpose?
I know you mean no harm asking. Yet, like other FR clergy will not enter this discussion. Please extend Grace to me by accepting my response:
I will say that in all things, let the Holy Spirit guide you in your personal deliberations to stay or leave. This is a personal and private decision. But, not a decision made by imitation.
As for me, I abide by Joshua 24:15.
I personally know of faith-filled individuals that stay within UMC and also those that desire to disaffiliate.
“Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather determine this—not to put an obstacle or a stumbling block in a brother’s way.” Romans 14:13
I will say salvation is personal, and not dependent upon membership. Matthew 25: 31-46
UMC is just women treating the church as a liberal social house.
My thoughts too, wasn’t sure where you were going, I’m a little slow sometimes.
Tell us. You can’t win an argument with an ad hominem.
