Joe Biden enraged environmentalists in March when he gave the go-ahead to allow the $8 billion Willow Project to drill on Arctic land. The greenies felt that Biden had betrayed a campaign promise of “no new drilling, period” on federal lands.
They needn’t have worried. Biden has never wavered from his goal of destroying the fossil fuel industry, nor has he ever deviated from his position that the U.S. will be weaned off of fossil fuels even if it costs tens of thousands of jobs and an untold amount of pain to consumers.
The Biden administration announced that it would prohibit drilling on 13 million acres of the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska. Furthermore, the administration is canceling all drilling leases in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
“We have a responsibility to protect this treasured region for all ages,” Biden said in a statement. “Canceling all remaining oil and gas leases issued under the previous administration in the Arctic Refuge and protecting more than 13 million acres in the western Arctic will help preserve our Arctic lands and wildlife, while honoring the culture, history, and enduring wisdom of Alaska Natives who have lived on these lands since time immemorial.”
The administration has just empowered Saudi Arabia, Russia, and the rest of OPEC+, which just announced yesterday that the cut in production that is driving the price rise at American pumps will continue through the end of the year. Benchmark Brent crude traded Tuesday above $90 a barrel after trading at $75-85 bbl for the last year.
Deirdre Shelly, campaigns director for the Sunrise Movement, said young people remained angry about the Willow decision and that the new Arctic protections did not make up for it.

Diesel was $6.27 this morning. Highest it has ever been for me. Let’s go Biden.
And soon the idiot liberals and democrats will call in the oil companies for a public spanking lamenting that “you are making record profits but gas is high” and throw out bread for their clapping seals.
The idiots who blocked the state road to Burning Man 12 or so days ago were protesting OIL DRILLING.
I still have not heard HOW THEY got so far out from Reno to stage their nonsense.
Paiute Tribal Police broke them up & opened up the road.
Biden campaigned on ending all fossil fuel usage.
Wonder where in the constitution is a dictator given that kind of authority?
with each day brandon remains in office we are under his constant economic attack of our nation.
Heard it’s going to be challenged in court???
Probably in their gas charged Teslas. I wonder where and how they were charged while they were mud-marooned on the Plata? 🤣
This is not a Biden problem.
The NPRA where the Willow Project is located (National Petroleum Reserve Alaska) was evaluated to hold 7 billion barrels of oil in the late 1990s. There was no great basis for that estimate. It was an based on a presumption the Prudhoe Bay geology might extend.
Some exploratory drilling was done. Repeat, it WAS done. This is not guesswork. Just about 2009 or so the results of that drilling were reported and USGS announced there was less than 1/10th of the amount previously estimated. So as a result of measurements, not guesses, the new number was 600 million barrels.
In the world of oil this is not much. If you put a field there of several production wells that sum to maybe 150,000 barrels/day (a modest number), that is 54 million barrels/year. That entire 600 million barrels (and you never ever get it all) would last 12 year if 600 is correct and if you could get it all.
The Permian field produces 5.8 million barrels PER DAY. If this Willow Project turned into just 1 million barrels per day it would be empty in less than 2 years.
Understand numbers, people. The US consumes 20 million barrels PER DAY. That’s 7.3 billion barrels/year. This Willow Project would last a month of consumption.
Understand the numbers. And generally always presume some reporter with a degree in journalism can’t do math.
What part of National PETROLEUM Reserve don’t they understand?
Understand the numbers. And generally always presume some reporter with a degree in journalism can’t do math.
“ Becuz math’s is kinda hard.”
FYI, some universities that require mathematics credits to graduate offer a great “History of Math” class for the numerically challenged.
That leads to the other reality.
If you got a bunch of rock that will go empty in a couple of years, nobody is going to spend the money to put in pipelines, infrastructure and equipment. What would be the point in all that permanent stuff if it’s done in 2 years.
all that permanent stuff if it’s done in 2 years.
Very poor ROI
Meanwhile oil sits in the mid to high 80s per barrel while the USA sits on a lake of oil.
This way he can say that the oil companies are not using the permits he already issued (for this land). Why are people objecting when the permits issued are sitting idle? The oil companies evidently don't need them!
The Constitution is no impediment to our form of government.
