VDH sums up with my favorite phrase, we have to burn the village to save it. What comes after the collapse? No doubt the left wants a totalitarian communist police state. Loyal communists do well. Victor Davis Hanson sees the Democrats for just who they are, not who they claim to be. If they got everything they wanted, there wouldn’t enough capable people left to even run the country & make it work in any reasonable fashion.
What’s not to understand here? “The Elite” of the world want a large, powerful, secure country where they can enjoy their wealth in Peace. There is nothing new under the sun. They have chosen what was once “America.” Get over it.

They abused the blacks both as slaves and later as free persons. Abused native Americans, religious minorities, and women, and now, lately, children.
Were Republicans perfect? No, but the Rats have ALWAYS been on the wrong or evil side of any issue, as consistently as if governed by some physical law.

The people finally rebelled at such preposterousness. Obama lost his party some 1,400 local and state offices during his tenure, along with both houses of Congress. His presidency was characterized by his own polarizing mediocrity. His one legacy was Obamacare...

The races were getting along fine before Obama stoked the hatred.
The US was concerned about the Domino Theory during the Cold War. We spent effort and money preventing the spread of communism on a nation by nation basis... yet we missed that the same thing could happen domestically on an institution by institution basis.
Now we are surrounded by those hostile elements
The presidency of 7th US president Andrew Jackson was from 1829 to 1837. It was followed by a depression that lasted from 1836 to 1843, caused in large part due to his policies.
Man... that is a powerful read. VDH gets it right.
Why doesn’t VDH start from the beginning of the progressive era and progressivism? Instead of just 20 years?
This is a big problem, actually. We constantly have conservative writers, thinkers, and pontificators who don’t actually start from the beginning and it leaves us blind to the beginnings of all this progressive mess.
I know he is not intending to implicate old progressives as now “good guys”. He gets this 20 year window accurate, but there is so much more that needs to be examined.
