It must be said though he was a strong and determined adherent of the left.

True, but that was never a part of his music so it never bothered me. His music always brought me back to those college/early 20s carefree days.

I could say the same about (very) early Springsteen. I still like those 70s albums and play the frequently. They were devoid of politics and captured the life and times and feelings of a NJ blue collar kid. Good stuff! But sometime in the mid 80s his music became political and he began lecturing people from the stage with his 15 minute rants. That's when I hopped off the Springsteen bus. Plus his music, with the exception of a small handful of songs, just got boring.

His “Parrot Heads” nickname for his fans came about in Cincy at Kings Island Timberwolf Amphitheater. A young bass player for Buffett named Timothy B. Schmidt was looking out at the audience when he remarked, “looks like a bunch of Parrot Heads out there.” The nickname stuck and the rest was history. Schmidt went on to fame and fortune with Eagles.

Saw Buffett in the early ‘90s running up to the ‘92 Election and he started to mention something about the election and Clinton and the crowd started booing in a true “Shut up and sing” moment. He abruptly cut his comments short, sheepishly acknowledged the crowd, apologized and quickly started into his next song to a raucous cheer. He got the message.

Also saw him in a smaller venue at Kings Dominion in Virginia one summer where he brought a Navy pilot from Norfolk on to play the harmonica foe a couple of songs and advocated for the support of Parrot Heads in uniform.

He was a good man and a fine entertainer.

Being disciple of that crowd, I wonder if his seaplane ever landed at Little St. James Island.

Dang. Saw him one time with Little Feat as the opener. He came out and played a couple of songs with them.

The old timers at the local watering hole will be grieved. They play Jimmy back to back on the juke whenever they shuffle in and congregate around the back table.

The music is certainly better than the rap crap that millennials play.

76 is not that old. My father passed away last August at 96. He died of old age and a broken heart after my mom died in 2017. It was a slow decline from there.

Local boy claimed by towns all up and down the Gulf Coast.

He was one of a kind.
