He passed away peacefully Friday night surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs
1946 ~ 2023
“Sure because no one died at 76”
Yeah, but to me 76 is getting younger all the time.
“I made enough money to buy Miami,
but I pissed it away so fast.”
I wonder how that cheeseburger tastes?
No it isn't but the average life expectancy for a man in the United States is only 73.5. Which is really low! In Hong Kong for example it's 83.
I thought he pretty much cleaned up his act a long time ago, of course sometimes the damage from those early years never goes away.
Schmit was big in Poco too and played with many performers
A class act personally too
Jimmy Buffett’s career, for me, is best captured in his song, “Six String Music”. As the lyrics go, “A simple song, sung from me to you.”
I played it a moment ago, before writing this tribute, and it brings tears to my eyes, at the passing of such a genuine man.
When I lived in Key West, 1986 - 1987, he hosted an annual workshop for aspiring musicians and song writers. At no charge.
I read somewhere years ago, that the reason life expectancy is lower in the US is because we calculate infant deaths from newborn on up, while other countries don’t factor in infant deaths until infants are 2 weeks old or more. That makes a huge difference, so in fact, our life expectancy is actually much higher than most countries.
Had big land development projects underway in the southeast at time of death
Residential 3/5000 home projects
I have no clue
My very brief time around him was 77
He was a pretty much wild man then
Seems to have settled down at some point yes
He lived a very good life in my view
The data is what it is.
Yeah, that’s not correct - the methodology is the same everywhere. What you might have heard though is something slightly different - the US has higher infant mortality than some other countries and that is a big thing that brings our numbers down. But you can control for that and there are other factors as well, including diabetes (obesity) and drug overdoses that lower US life expectancy relative to other countries.
I lived in Biloxi from 74’ to 77’ and went to night school at Southern Miss...he was big then. “But They Don’t Dance Like Carmen No More” has been my favourite song by him and I perform it sporadically. I believe he liked Mary Mahoney’s Restaurant there.
And the data is that anybody that looks upon death and thinks “I shall use this to make a political point” is an evil opportunistic piece of human garbage. You’re no different than a gungrabber.
“A Pirate Looks at 40” is a close second to “He Went To Paris”.... lyrics I can relate to if the title was slightly changed to “He Went To L.A.”
Beautiful Jimmy Buffett tribute. Thank you for sharing.
Timothy B. Schmidt fun fact...
When Poco was formed, the bassist was Randy Meisner
Randy left Poco to join a band called The Eagles
Timothy B. Schmidt replaced Randy in Poco
Randy left/was fired by the Eagles
Timothy B. Schmidt replaced Randy Meisner. Again.
That’s a true story. Where the song Jamaica Mistaka came from.
Just dang. Saw him in 89 in is San Diego, J Giles band opened. Giles was good, Magic Dick and his Lickin Stick was amazing on the harmonica, had in a bandelero with all his chromatics and harps inserted. But Jimmy was smooth, professional, and had a great sound team.
RIP
Named my 40 ft sailboat Apocalypso. Lots of Buffett played on it.
