Since 2017, a shadowy Silicon Valley company has bought up 52,000 acres of farmland around Travis Air Force Base in Solano County, Calif., totaling about $800 million.
Flannery Associates is a company run by Jan Sramek, a 36-year-old former Goldman Sachs trader. Beyond that, nothing much is known of the company except that some of the most famous names in Silicon Valley have invested in a project being promoted by Flannery. Some backers include Marc Andreessen, Powell Jobs, Michael Moritz of Sequoia Capital, LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman, and others, according to the report.
The entire Air Force base is now encircled by land owned by Flannery. This caught the attention of the Department of Defense, who have since been investigating. According to the New York Times, in 2017, Flannery was trying to sell an idea to build an entire city — walkable and green. Its proximity to San Francisco suggests that the new city would be an escape hatch for those who are finding San Francisco unlivable. But others aren’t so sure.
“We don’t know who Flannery is, and their extensive purchases do not make sense to anybody in the area,” said Rep. John Garamendi, (D., Calif.), the top Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee’s readiness panel. “The fact that they’re buying land purposefully right up to the fence at Travis raises significant questions.”
But the Wall Street Journal is now saying Flannery Associates is going to build that city.

please tell me they will welcome lots and lots and lots of diversity and ‘equitable’ housing.
I would bet money that they won’t.
smart city
NWO
I bet you a dollar Travis is going to magically find its way to the next BRAC list.
It is almost as if they know that the air base is going to be expanding.
This is 20 years too late. About halfway into this city-construction business...homelessness will appear, and the place will be a magnet for the drug-trade. At that point, the whole investment idea will go ‘south’.
I was stationed at Travis AFB for 4 years. I am always suspicious of these clowns.
imho it was a mistake for the federal government to let go of the old presidio in SF. That base had actually been a fort since 1776 when the spanish created it to keep the russians from coming south.
The history there runs far deeper than the pentagon.
further the military presidio was a part of SF’s American identity.
The presidio anchored SF. SF’s moorings were already loose. When the presidio was vacated by the army—the SF US anchor was cut and the city drifted away.
The presidio should be bought back by the feds.
According to the mayor of Fairfield, the Solano County seat, the whole area is short of fresh water, and the developers can forget about it if they want some from her. Maybe these developers are real geniuses and have a plan to overcome the water shortage. And then again maybe not.
Given the state of the city, if we were wishcasting, I'd like to see the entire Presidio eminent domained by the military by force, and used as a beachhead to reclaim the city for society. Not gonna happen in the real world, but it would be nice and it would send a very important message.
I thought it was the Chinese who were buying all the land around military bases.
To sell to the Chinese? With a “Mr. Peters” to take 10 percent? Or is his new email Peter File?
The Silicon Valley gazillionaires apparently want to do what Walt Disney envisioned for EPCOT, a kind of a reimagined, built-from-the-ground-up “city done right.” Walt’s idea fizzled quickly, and it’s hard to imagine the rich tech people having better luck in California where, for at least the last three decades, it’s been notoriously difficult and expensive to get any damned thing built.
It will take billions to change all the California anti/ development laws to see the first spade of dirt turned. Forget about a new city out there. It has sone other goal. Surrounding usa’s chief Air Force deployment and supply base for the pacific theatre for the upcoming communist China war. For starters. No Travis flights— USA is crippled in the pacific theater. Crippled
That was Clinton’s doing. The Feds already own it, it’s part of the National Park Service.
Well, Sequoyah Capital is a CCP owned front company.
I’m guessing somebody has the “in” on what might happen with SFO in the future. Anybody here remember the old Denver airport -— and then the new behemoth they built some distance away from the city? I’d say “informed speculation.”
“Sequoyah Capital is a CCP owned front company.”
Yes; I know. A lot of GOP pols are trying to distance themselves from the fact that they have taken YUGE donations from Sequoya. Kevin McCarthy is one of ‘em for sure. Maybe Desantis, too but I’m not sure.
What does that have to do with who is buying the land around military bases?
