Sounds like you were on emergency activation duty and spent the night at the hospital. Bless you. Glad things are good in Orlando.

Well, lessee, here in the mid-South:

Tornados, including the top two track length high end (F4, F4) tornados in US recorded history:

Tri-State tornado, 1925, high end F5, highest fatalities in recorded US history (695), highest forward speed, and longest track in recorded history anywhere.

Mayfield, KY, 2022: F4, would have been longest track tornado ever recorded if it had not briefly “skipped” near KY / TN border.

Ice storms: The 2009 ice storm was one of the US’ worst ever, over 2 million without power, some for weeks.

“Super” Derechos: The 2009 Super Derecho was the genesis of the term.

Fire: None really awful recorded, but the potential for Ike-like-wind field-driven wildfires during a drought is definitely there in some areas. Fortunately our Emergency Managers are generally pretty competent. The road network is less conducive to trapping people, though trees down could be a real problem — luckily lots of people have chain saws.

Major(!) floods: The area includes both the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers

Major earthquakes / Extended earthquake storms: Several months of large to major earthquakes in sedimentary soils with an efficient “wave carrier” plate below them. Catastrophic damage over an area 10x that of the famed San Francisco quake, Memphis and (maybe) St. Louis “in the zone” of destruction. The worst part would be the repeated destruction of surface transport infrastructure and the power grid (even individual residents’ solar or wind collectors). How to bring in bare minimum food, water, and fuel, I don’t know. If the quakes begin (again) in early winter its even worse...

Well, at least we don’t get coastal-strength hurricanes.

Idalia’s track has shifted a bit westward. Vidalia GA is under a Tropical Storm Watch.

Thank for checking in, and glad that all is well.

These hurricane threads can get pretty long.

They are still getting used to the wildlife coming out of the Chassahowitzka Reserve and wandering around the neighborhood!

The mid-Atlantic is about the most perfect place on earth for weather, geological issues, biological issues, and sustainability.

Hell, we don’t even have fire ants. Or alligators.

Yes, we have occasional touches from hurricanes, but not much. Winters are not at all brutal, rarely a big storm, though the summer can be very hot and very, very humid.

NHC saying none of the guidance is now indicating a possible recurve back to the mainland.* Small comfort to anyone with damage or damage imminent. :-(

Might still be a Cat 1 when it exits the SC coast - dang!
Prayers for all.

What critters entertain the kitties? Alligators, raccoons, bears, ‘possums?

Wild hogs, rabbits, cranes and wild turkeys. And the occasional alligator that makes it into the retaining pond in front of the house.

I made brownies. I made several gallons of beef vegetable soup. Need to go get some Tupperware and freeze it.

My house (studio) is torn completely...well...97.3 percent, this control room is still functional... apart, to swap a mixing console Sweetwater warned me not to buy, for 32 of the thickest, richest old-school analog Midas pre-amps ever manufactured, the chainsaw is in-op, the half of the 70 foot tree a storm dropped on a neighbor’s fence is cut and stacked, but the remaining half that had to come down is yet to go, and the grass is a bit taller than I’d like, but life is good here now.

How’s your world?

Who won, you or the dog?

Cranes and bunnies are nice. The wild hogs are nasty in disposition and their destructive rooting.

All the Florida feral hogs are descendants from Hernando DeSoto's introduction of the species during his exploration.

I’ll believe AI is a reasonable threat when the big iron can predict the weather right at least 72 hours out.
