I looked up the tide tables for the Big Bend area, and it looks like high tide about 45 minutes before high winds arrive. That means high tide waters already piled up on a concave coastline before Idalia makes landfall. This truly could be a devastating storm 😪

Are they minimally salt tolerant?

Yes. This is a factor that took me a couple of years to grok. The ones that weren't, like lychee, are dead.

I have a doctor's appointment at 1530 and then I'm off to Walmart for hurricane essentials, more Moon Pies and Diet Dr. Pepper.

I don't think we are going to get much more than a lot of rain and some wind here in Saint Marys, GA.

I hope all the EV owners in Florida are ready to go.

I hope they make 10 miles at least.

You have surely been a proponent for buoy privatization for many years.

You have to give people information so they can plan evacuations, secure property, etc. lots of old folks need to be evacuated in case of power loss. Limited roads and you can’t wait till the last minute.

Winds are estimated to be 120 mph….maybe more. Gonna be lots of destruction.

Just common sense.

Now it looks like Idalia has picked up speed and high winds will arrive about 45 minutes *before* high tide and she will make landfall shortly after high tide. Oh dear. It just looks worse and worse.

It's going to be like Ian about 11 months ago. The shoreline of the landfall spots are going suffer a lot of damage. Fortunately, landfall is in a sparsely populated part of the Florida coastline, unlike Ian, which almost had a direct hit on Fort Myers.
