I prefer the IR loop. It is on Zulu time which is +4 hr.s to EST currently.

https://www.tropicaltidbits.com/sat/satlooper.php?region=10L&product=ir

I believe the warmer inshore water to the east will cause it to loop-reform repeatedly further to the east approximate to the degree of hotter water temperature. Since the GOM temps are beyond normal highs used in computer models I expect it will track further east than the models predict att.

Ee-Vahn the Terrible jacked up Gulf Shores and Dauphin Island. Then he looped back smacked the Miami area then went all the way across the Gulf and rained on Texas.

After Charley, Frances and Jeanne, along came Ivan.

I was driving to the dentist office that morning when news broke about Ivan. Along I-75, cars were running off the road. It was too much to bear for a traumatized population.

any chance all the buoys that are down will one day be repaired? We have half our buoys on the ocean side of the keys down and have been for months.

You have been sounding this alarm for years. A few years ago we heard about some college kids who were working on at least one buoy. Would be nice if some groups would adopt-a-buoy.

Hi.

Thanks for all you do.

Methinks it’s going to be a long season.

Idalia is having trouble replacing the eyewall. Both radar and sat show this.

5.56mm

Idalia is sending preliminary outer bands into the mouth of the Tampa Bay. Time to take the covers off of my little citrus saplings before they blow away.

Not that I’m overly interested in trying - but I wonder what it’d be like to ride out a hurricane in a place like Fort Jefferson or perhaps Fort Clinch up near Jacksonville?

I’d like to think you’d be pretty secure from the winds and any storm surge. Those coastal forts really were built to last.

Have made two requests since early this morning to update the thread title to Hurricane Idalia. If anyone has connections to a moderator, assist would be appreciated.

I got no connections, but this thread really does need to be updated and in the Breaking News sidebar. It’s a longstanding FR tradition!

And many thanks for all you do, NautiNurse. We all treasure you!

although I completely get it that most people will wanna see a webcam from one of the beaches - but there’s a few inland that may be interesting.

Interesting as in railroads.

Go to youtube.com and search for virtual railcam plant city or tomorrow virtual railcam folkston or virtual railcam waycross.

I’ve been watching the webcam at Plant City. There seems to be little train traffic and although the rain hasn’t started there, it’s getting more darker. Whoever runs the webcam will occasionally rotate it around it different directions so you can see what’s going on.

“The cats, however, are hell-on-wheels. They make sure that we are as miserable as they are for the whole drive. This usually includes a vengeful stinky poop as early as possible in the trip.”

LMAO! They do have their ways, don’t they.

I’m thrilled to see this thread in the sidebar, but I do not have friends high on the food chain. I guess I just happened to ping TPTB here at the moment they were watching — or they saw your pings. Whichever, all credit goes to you, NN. You earned your hurricane cred here!
