When I read the article about the GPR survey awhile ago I was taken aback by how it was written. Of course it was a reporter writing it and not the GPR guy. The GPR guy may have said “Anomalies are present in large amounts in this area and may indicate buried bodies, or other objects such as boulders, tree stumps or logs or other types of materials.”
And the reporter stopped at “human bodies”.
An old decayed body, even in a rotted out wooden casket is pretty much impossible to locate. One can locate the disturbed soils sometimes with GPR or other associated objects. Any children that would have died that long ago in a boarding school would probably just have been wrapped in a blanket and laid to rest. Probably no metal associated with such a burial, but sometimes there may be enough metal that using a metal detector helps.
Don’t believe the hype.
And of course, you won’t find this anywhere on the CBC website.
Most people have no markers, or wood markers that deteriorate and disappear over time... This entire ‘unmarked’ native graves at Catholic orphanages is complete nonsense.
Absolutely nobody kept better records than the Catholic church... They record pretty much everything, including every baptism and every death. So the concept that they would take children, then murder them and throw them in unmarked graves is complete bunk, dreamt up by the children of many of these people who the priest and nuns where actually helping... Taking them away from their drunken relatives and broken homes and offering them a steady and stable learning environment, with food, clothing and a roof over their heads.

The idea the Natives revere their dead is an idea from a bygone era. I was a young missionary on an Indian reservation in Alberta in 1968. There was an old dilapidated log cabin on one reserve where we discovered a pine coffin, open, with a complete skeleton inside. None of the Indians knew who it was or how long it had been there. My guess was between 60 and 100 years. Not exactly a sense of reverence.

Absolutely. some kids died of various diseases back then and it was illegal to ship a contaminated body back home.
