Rupert Murdoch encouraged Virginia’s Glenn Youngkin to seek presidency
Washington Post ^ | August 18, 2023 | Laura Vozzella, etc.

RICHMOND — Media mogul Rupert Murdoch has repeatedly encouraged Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) to run for president in 2024, according to two people familiar with entreaties made in at least two face-to-face meetings.

The previously unreported meetings took place months ago, but Murdoch’s ask has taken on fresh relevance as Youngkin continues to lay the groundwork for a potential last-minute White House bid and as Murdoch outlets hyped his presidential prospects this month with a mix of sober Wall Street Journal analysis and buzzy Page Six blurbs.

Yes, the consultants get paid regardless of whether the candidate wins or not. That’s also true with the candidates. Most aren’t trying to win, just trying to get famous and grift donors.

You’re also right about saying no to Casey. Rhonda changed how he pronounced his own last name because she told him to. You can’t get more henpecked than this.

Virginia is a tough nut to crack. You have rich men north of Richmond, on the other hand you have the real Virginians in the rest of the state.

When we got stationed in VA in 1992 there were three large areas that voted Democrat. The state had been Democrat since the reconstruction but flipped.

I always noticed that Fairfax County and the areas around Richmond and some in the Norfolk area always waited until very late on election days to submit their totals (especially Fairfax County). We always knew they were waiting to add the needed ballots to turn the election to the Dems unless it was a landslide.

Once the Clinton's started the huge influx of immigration as well as illegals and implemented the Motor Voter law, the counties of Loudoun, Fauquier, Prince William, and also Stafford were overrun with foreigners and illegals who could vote. This was the intentional doings of the Dems and the Leftists in the Republican parties and VA turned to purple and blue.

Youngkin needs at least six or seven years as a successful governor so maybe he runs in 2028.

Governors in Virginia are not allowed two successive terms. He is a one-and-done Governor and is also a milquetoast. He would be a worthless President as he will fiddle around the edges and cave when he gets any real push-back. His advisors are the go along to get along gang of squish Republicans.

Rupert Wormtongue?

Republicans can be so gullible...

It reminds me of the time that Judd Gregg (R-NH)accepted Obama's nomination to be his Secretary of Commerce in 2009. After the 2008 election, Democrats gained eight seats in the Senate and were one seat shy of a super-majority (57-41-2).

New Hampshire had a Democrat governor who would replace Gregg with a Democrat, giving the Democrats cloture-proof control of the Senate.

Republicans were confounded about why Gregg would do this. Gregg believed he would have control of the 2010 Census, since it was managed by the Commerce Department. However, after nominating Gregg, Obama decided to move the Census Bureau under direct White House Control, allegedly in response to minority group complaints about Gregg.

Gregg then withdrew his name from consideration, accepted the blame for his decision to accept a position in the Obama nomination (potentially giving Harry Reid absolute control), and then declined to run again in the 2010 Senate election.

Now we have reports of DeSantis, and then Youngkin, being whispered to about giving up their power bases in their states to run for President? The conspiracy theorist in me suspects this was a plot to weaken the Republican bench, not strengthen it.

Whatever you can say about Carlyle Group Lizard Man Youngkin, he will probably be a more competent candidate than deSantis.

I'd take Youngkin over Trump in a heartbeat.

Pence over Trump.

Christie over Trump.

Hallie over Trump.

I guess any old GOP hack will do, over Trump.

There's a sickness in this land.

How about Jeb! ?

Knock Jeb all you want. He'd be enjoying his second term right now. The Senate would be in Republican hands. Thomas and Alito would be retiring.

Yeah, it would kinda suck having another Bush in office but Jeb would be an order of magnitude better than Biden which is who Trump left us with.

The self-disclosure of the GOPe.

This is who wants DeSantis rather than Trump !

Jeb! was even more unpopular than Hillary. She would be in her second term now.

And even if Traitor Jeb! had won, those millions of illegals crossing the border, they plus millions more would be Amnestied, and already voting.

Brilliant !

Trump's "build the wall" bill that he wanted so badly to sign included amnesty for 1.8 million "dreamers." DeSantis voted against it for this reason.

He would have a better chance of surviving the coronavirus pandemic. Trump has no empathy. One of his flaws.

If we had a President who wasn't Trump, he would just have to brace the initial onslaught. Let Dr. Fauci do his thing. Then he'll be pushed out of government. Dr. Fauci is retired. He'll probably still be working at NIH if it wasn't for his treasonous actions during the pandemic.

The Wall was needed to keep even more millions from invading, like they do right now.

Paul Ryan and his @sshole cronies in the Congress (like you know who) sabotaged Wall funding, including a prohibition on buying construction materials that could be used for a Wall.

Youngkin should run against that Idiot Kaine for the Senate.

Virginia is looking for a strong name...possibly he could be the one.

To be fair, if we had any other president than Trump, Covid would've been a paragraph on page 36 of the New York Times, "Medical experts concerned over deadly flu season. The elderly and obese most affected." and this would've been the end of it.

I don't subscribe to many conspiracy theories but I truly do believe the overreaction to Covid was an effort to drive Trump from office. He'd have coasted easily to re-election on the booming economy.

And Trump stumbled right into their trap.
