GOP Strategist Garrett Ventry: DeSantis Campaign Is "In Scott Walker/Jeb Bush Territory"
Real Clear Politics ^ | August 1, 2023 | Tim Hains

GOP strategist Garrett Ventry said the DeSantis presidential campaign is floundering in the same way that the past campaigns of Jeb Bush and Scott Walker did, Tuesday afternoon on FOX News.

GARRET VENTRY: I think Ron DeSantis is really in Scott Walker and Jeb Bush territory, here. He's bleeding campaign dollars, he's firing staff, and Ed Rollins, who runs a pro-DeSantis PAC, essentially, is saying he's a flawed candidate. If you dig into the facts and look at the polling, GOP voters in the New York Times poll and your FOX Business poll show by 30-point margin they trust Donald Trump going into a general election. So they have a lot of really good reasons to believe that. A Harvard poll shows Trump up five on Joe Biden, and if you dig into the "New York Times" poll, they're locked at 43-43, Trump and Biden, but Trump is gaining steam with black voters, Hispanic voters, and that is a really good sign for Trump and a bad sign for Biden.

The last thing I would say is there is a rust belt poll that came out of Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Michigan, in that poll Donald Trump is beating Joe Biden by seven points and Ron Desantis is losing to Joe Biden by three points.

So again, Donald Trump is not only trouncing in the GOP primary by 37 points in the NYT polls, 30 to 40 points in other polls, but obviously clearly the best choice to go against Joe Biden in 2024.

Former President Trump said he agrees Tuesday on "TRUTH Social":

Great job on FoxNews by Garrett Ventry in explaining my big lead over Ron DeSanctimonious and Crooked Joe Biden in the Polls. DeSanctus is losing to Crooked Joe in virtually every Poll, whereas I am beating Crooked in almost every Poll. He was also a BIG Fauci admirer, and closed up Florida and its beaches good and tight. Now he tries to deny that. Amazing how this guy, with the help of Fox, tries so hard to remake history. Also, and sadly, Florida was 3rd WORST in term of DEATH due to Covid!

The people who encouraged DeSantis to run (most likely against his better judgement), didn’t have DeSantis’ best interests in mind.

They wanted him to take out Trump, knowing that DeSantis would be taken out with Trump, thus killing two birds with one stone.

I was just comparing DeSantis to Walker. An effective governor, but not a national caliber candidate.

Scott Walker looks like Floyd R. Turbo.

As for DeSantis it’s unfair to compare him to Jeb. Jeb’s endorsement of him does not help. Perhaps this will be a valuable learning experience comparable to Reagan and Nixon’s losses.

Exactly. DeSantis either had to know that and sided with them or he is politically naive. Either way not a good look for him and he’s going to have a hard time convincing a lot of Republicans in 2028 and beyond he’s not part of the establishment.

Walker, Cruz and Desantis are basically good, but had the misfortune of running against Trump.

Yeb! is basically a retarded POS, who had the misfortune of runming against Trump

The lesson here is, you CANNOT run against Trump - the math, the zeitgeist and the GOP core, history and mother nature is just NOT WITH YOU.

I don’t understand how any thinking person can’t see this. It makes them fools - so people treat them accordingly... like fools.

That’s why I think if not Trump, Youngkin will be the nominee. He’s staying above the fray for now, which is the smart move.

The TDS is present in the GOP. Any smart Republican would side with Trump, "smart Republican", add that to the endangered species list.

Good post. Trump has tapped an enormous reservoir of discontented voters, and they simply aren’t going to latch onto some jackass political hack once Trump is out of the picture.

Desantis should have taken Trump’s advice and waited for 2028, which is probably lost to Desantis now.
Overwhelmingly obvious that Desantis is a tool of the RINOs, and he won’t do any better in the primaries next year than JEB! did in 2016.

Now that is probably a correct assessment.
What you didn’t say is the left used Walker’s failure to torpedo him in his Gov reelection.
FR is helping the left do the same thing to Ron in FL.

FR did NOT go after Scott Walker.

Youngkin would be smart to sit this one out. If Trump is not the nominee, there’s no way in hell the GOP candidate will win in 2024.

At this point, the Republican Party leadership is probably looking for the best candidate who is willing to sacrifice his political future by accepting an ass-kicking in 2024. This is where an insufferable loser like Walter Mondale or Bob Dole comes in handy.

A lot can happen between now and then. But even so, the Cultural Marxists are so embedded, that we're at the point where who occupies the White House is more and more irrelevant. That's the much bigger problem.

DeSantis may have been thinking he wasn’t going to win but was going to use this cycle to raise his visibility and better position himself for a run in 2028. But he’s only succeeded in damaging his future viability with his missteps, clumsy messaging, and poor campaign management.

Very effective governor but doesn’t have the chops/personality for high national office IMO.

“the Republican Party leadership”

***********

There is no leadership in the party. Just a bunch of self-serving political hacks.

I still say the folks advising him in this, do not have his best interests at heart.

The “cultural Marxists” aren’t the problem here. The real problem is that the Republican Party has demonstrated to its own supporters that it is filled with corrupt, feckless losers. That’s the only reason Trump ever had a chance to succeed on the national political scene.
