Special Counsel Jack Smith told a federal court in Washington, D.C., on Thursday that prosecutors want to start the trial of former President Donald Trump on January 2, 2024, right before the Iowa caucuses launch the Republican presidential primary.
Fox News reported:
Special Counsel Jack Smith proposed to begin former President Donald Trump’s trial in January 2024 for the charges he’s facing in relation to the events of Jan. 6, 2021.
“The Government proposes that trial begin on January 2, 2024, and estimates that its case in chief will take no longer than four to six weeks,” the filing on Thursday states.
As Breitbart News has noted, Trump faces four charges related to his challenges to the 2020 election result, and the resulting riot at the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021. One of the four charges carries a potential death penalty if Trump were to be convicted.
Smith faces accusations from critics that he is shaping his prosecution to interfere with the 2024 election. The judge in the “documents” case in federal court in Miami set that trial date in May 2024 — after most of the GOP primaries will have been held.
Breitbart News has noted a pattern in which the government announces indictments or actions against Trump the day of, or after, damaging revelations about the Biden family. On Wednesday, the House Oversight Committee revealed bank records that show the Bidens received $20 million from the foreign partners of Hunter Biden, prior to meetings with then-Vice President Joe Biden.

Trial starts Jan 2. After a month of milking media ratings, conviction handed down in the first indictment Feb 2. Sentencing on the 6th - 20 to life.
It’s not about having faith or not faith—it’s about biased jurors and non-impartial judges and wasting time and money that could have been spent campaigning. It’s election interference and harassment.
This is worst than the J6 Committee
FR: Never Accept the Premise of Your Opponent’s Argument
A freeper in an earlier Trump indictment thread had posted that federal trials have to get started "promptly." I remember 70 days, correction welcome.
"Trial must commence within 70 days from the date the information or indictment was filed, or from the date the defendant appears before an officer of the court in which the charge is pending, whichever is later." —Speedy Trial Act

Smith ends up in jail or America has no hope
ludicrous
Right to a speedy trial is the defendant’s right, not the prosecution’s.
I read about cases taking years before they go to trial. How the Hell can something as complex as this case possibly start within a year?
BTTT
I’m looking forward to the acquittal. I’m unsure why so many have so little faith in trump. It's because a DC jury would send POTUS45 to the gas chamber for a parking ticket.
And a DC judge would order the sentence to be carried out the next day.
FBI’s Comey was shy and oh so careful in not letting something influence voters when a candidate named Hillary might be hurt, so he let her go.

Apr 22, 2017 — As the F.B.I. investigated Hillary Clinton, James B. Comey tried to keep the bureau out of politics.
Like so many of these Democrat henchmen (excuse me, henchpeople) scurrying around, Jack Smith seems a combination of unfathomably corrupt and unbelievably stupid.
By choice of that date, Smif is openly stating -- shouting -- it's a political prosecution, and that flows directly back to Merrick Fartlung and The White Hospice.
The problem is, there's no Rush to grind on it for days and force The White Hospice on defense.
This will only foment support - or at least sift the weak from the strong.
slime weasel is so predictable
“I’m unsure why so many have so little faith in trump.”
It is not a lack of faith in Trump, it is lack of faith in a fair jury. He probably will be convicted if it is held in DC. Of course, it will be kicked out later on, but it is grist for the mill.
I think that would be good for Trump. Get acquitted before the primaries.
Oh, by the way!
We are almost into September , so that leaves only 3 months for the defense to prepare.
But, those three months include Columbus Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years , and I believe there are a couple of Jewish holidays as well. Probably some local elections sprinkled in that time frame.
Historically, very little work is accomplished during this time period due to all manner of adjusted schedules. I.e., school, Court, city, etc.
I would think the defense would have to call in resources from all over the country and cope with adjusted work days with precious little time for real work.
Wonder if they planned it that way?
