As Republican presidents nominated pro-life justices, Antonin Scalia (Reagan, 1986), Clarence Thomas (Bush 41, 1991), and Samuel Alito (Bush 43, 2006), they also avoided a pro-life conservative majority, nominating John Paul Stevens (Ford, 1975), Sandra Day O’Connor (Reagan, 1981), Anthony M. Kennedy (Reagan, 1988), David Souter (Bush 41, 1990), and flimsy switch-hitter John Roberts (Bush 43, 2005).
Routinely, these presidents and establishment Republicans would frame these latter nominations as being regrettable “mistakes” while their committed radical pro-abortion counterparts in the Democratic party “batted 1000” on such appointments

To all the people like Ann Coulter who say that Trump doesn't get done what he said he would, we should all remember the Dobbs decision and how for decades we thought that Roe and Casey would never be overturned.
And thanks for the reminder in the LifeSiteNews article this is linked to, reminding us of how Trump himself argued in front of millions to his pro-abortion opponent, Hillary, the graphic details of abortion and made her defend it. And won the 2016 election.
In his final debate against Hillary Clinton, he also provided more graphic rhetoric regarding the horror of abortion to an enormous audience describing his opponent’s position as supporting the legality of “rip[ping] the baby out of the womb of the mother just prior to the birth of the baby … Hillary can say that that’s okay, but it’s not okay with me.”
bttt
Freepers can say what they want about Ronald Reagan, but back in the 1980s I listened to him give an address to the March for Life remotely. He came across as such a wet noodle on pro-life matters that I never bothered going back again.
This is what we could expect from Pence and other establishment conservatives. “Whoops! I swear I didn’t know this SCOTUS nominee was a hard leftist!”
Overturning Roe v. Wade was not “pro-life”. It was anti-USSC making up fake Constitutional rights.
Best election, best POTUS, evah!
Majority of republican politicians wanted the pro-life vote, without having to actually do the pro-life work.....I still think some of the damage to trump was because the dem party was terrified he would destroy the abortion movement, especially planned parenthood........He was really effective at destroying PP in the beginning...He banned them from getting money to do abortions...
Let me guess, he became pro life when he ran for president? Look at the Bushes. Barbara Bush pro abortion, Laura pro abortion, Bush daughters pro abortion. GH Bush pro abortion. It’s only when someone gets presidential aspirations that they are pro life.
Look how Romney shifted from Pro Abortion to Pro Life. Yeah...right.
I asked ChatGPT list pro abortion politicians that shifted to prolife shortly before running for president. Here’s what it came up with:
“While I can’t provide real-time information, here are a few examples of notable politicians who shifted from a pro-choice stance to a pro-life stance before running for president. Please note that this list may not be exhaustive or up-to-date:
1. Ronald Reagan
2. George H.W. Bush
3. Mitt Romney
4. Rick Santorum
5. Mike Huckabee
6. Jeb Bush
7. Bob Dole
8. Tim Pawlenty
9. Pat Buchanan
10. Sam Brownback
11. Ben Carson
12. Herman Cain
13. Rick Perry
14. Newt Gingrich
15. Scott Walker
16. Bobby Jindal
17. Duncan Hunter
18. Jim Gilmore
19. Steve Forbes
20. Gary Bauer
Keep in mind that political positions can be complex and subject to change over time, and some politicians’ stances may have evolved due to personal, ideological, or strategic reasons.”
Yeah. They csn all go to Hell
It was the very best possible decision and republicans need to learn how to tell people that the decision is now completely in their hands. Each state makes up their own minds on where they stand. If you disagree you can either stay and fight or move to another state.
I don’t know why republicans in New York don’t address a crowd with the truth. Pro abortion New Yorkers shouldn’t be marching in the streets. They can kill their babies any time they want for any reason. We are never going to win this until we make the pink haired morons understand the law.
New Yorkers and Californians need to understand the laws in their state. Open abortion so you can kill babies, strict gun laws so you can’t protect yourself, loose laws so crooks don’t get punished. If voters ever really understood what they voted for maybe we could win this fight.
I wouldn’t vote for anyone who said they hope to kill as many as possible. I really think any national candidate needs to point out that abortion is no longer a national issue, it’s local only. I like the idea of pointing to the map and saying chances are if you live in a blue state you can kill your baby. If you live in a red state the laws on when will depend on what you and your neighbors decide.
(Donald J. Trump will go down in history as the only U.S. President to attend the annual March for Life in person.)
Nice
Pat Buchanan was always pro-life.
Bobby Jindal, I believe, converted from Hinduism to Catholicism. I’m pretty certain that his change was religious not political.
Some Democrats shifted to pro-Abortion from anti-Abortion.
Most politicians are hackneyed careerists.
“I really think any national candidate needs to point out that abortion is no longer a national issue,”
Ideally, that’s the argument the GOP should be making. But then you have the damned saboteurs like Linda Graham talking up 15-week national bans or whatever, and the whole argument is shot to hell.
Make the argument anyway and if anyone mentions Lindsey them just say “Strange, he must not be up on the Constitution”
Most of that list is inaccurate. Rick Santorum? Ben Carson?
My man Alan Keyes didn’t make the list :)
It’s not so much that they don’t understand what they’re voting for… I think it’s more that they just don’t give a rats ass.
Lazy pieces of garbage that vote for MORE garbage that promise to give them “free” crap at taxpayer expense.
