Nigeria has cut its electricity supply to Niger after West African neighbors imposed sanctions on the junta that ousted the country’s elected leader last week, a Niger power company source said on Wednesday.

“Since yesterday, Nigeria has disconnected the high-voltage line transporting electricity to Niger,” a source at Niger’s power company Nigelec told AFP.

Niger depends on Nigeria for 70 percent of its power, buying it from the Nigerian company Mainstream, according to Nigelec, the country’s monopoly supplier.

I hope the people seize the power stations, and then hunt down the people that cut the power.

This whole thread sounds really racist....everyone should be ashamed of themselves....

The only hope would be if both countries changed their names.

--- "...most of what goes on, on it, doesn't orbit around the USA."

With you, I suggest that is a reality. As it is, it also stands against the "lead the liberal world" stance as Biden (and others) enunciated in a White House speech (March 21, 2022).

What seems a theme in this time is the "world order" and who or which side is supposed to lead it.

Biden's remarks were made to a "Business Roundtable’s CEO Quarterly Meeting," so one should conclude that this is about "leading" businesses as well as nations.

Access to raw materials as to labor pools is part of what all this is about. In the case of Niger, it is about uranium, while elsewhere it is about other raw materials. France wants and argues that it owns by contract access to Niger's uranium ore. So some sort of conflict is inevitable. Others seeking access and control will play in the game, and so even longer term strife is easily predictable.

We're not the only player. Russia isn't. France isn't. And so on. But a whole lot of CEOs want and will work alongside government competitors, and this has been and will be the nature of this and many other conflicts.

Given that Nuland appeared in Niger of late suggests "we" are players too. Tick tock.

China is the most globalized nation in the history of man kind. It’s Communist.
Russia has made an alliance with them. Russia has the support of all the commie-nations of the planet: China, North-Korea, Venezuela, Cuba, Belarus and... as a bonus in the malfeasance... the Islamic State of Iran!

Thus, by not denouncing them, you are complicit...

That makes you a GIC*
