Issue 1 was projected to fail on Tuesday, according to Decision Desk HQ, dealing a blow to Ohio Republicans who wanted to hamstring a November ballot question on abortion rights.
Decision Desk HQ, an election results reporting agency providing results and race calls for the USA TODAY Network Ohio, called the race around 8:09 p.m. With about 28% of the vote counted, no vote was leading 68% to 32%.
Tuesday’s election was the culmination of a months-long fight that began last year, when Secretary of State Frank LaRose and Rep. Brian Stewart, R-Ashville, first introduced a plan to tighten the rules for constitutional amendments. The debate played out in the halls of the Ohio Statehouse, on the campaign trail and even in the courtroom as opponents tried to stop GOP lawmakers in their tracks.
Proponents of the measure said they want to keep controversial policies out of the constitution and reserve it for the state's fundamental rights and values. Critics argued the ballot measure was a power grab that would hamstring the rights of citizens to place an issue on the ballot.
Ohioans appeared to buy the message opponents were selling.

I would argue that holding a referendum in a state is unconstitutional. You can't do that on the federal level. So the same should apply to the states. We live in a republic, not a direct democracy.
So, right thinking people need to compromise on the killing of babies? I suppose instead of killing a million a year, a half a million would be tolerable even acceptable?
“We had a chance to make monkeying with a state constitution harder. To me THAT goes directly to the definition of a conservative position.”
Another laugh my ass off moment. Cause the RINOs are always looking out for conservatives, lol.
You’re catching on. The acceptable number of abortions is negotiable. Never mind the line about life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Yeah I keep posting about Dominion machines. No one seems to understand the significance or care.
But after the election they'll claim 'it wasn't fair'.
What's to compromise?
The pro-life side is losing in defeat after defeat.
We have about a year to try to defuse the abortion and student loan issues.

Because we have kicked GOD and HIS SON, JESUS, out of this country!!
What does the American Catholic Church believe when the Pope, the head of the Catholic Church, entertained and did photo-ops with the biggest abortionist politicians and their donors at the Vatican before critical votes whether it be about laws or elections . It sends the wrong message to Catholics. Pope Francis certainly knows it, but he does it anyway disregarding that these pro-abortionists are against the sanctity of life. His lackluster words on the subject of abortion are little more to him than pretense.
A crucial vote in Ohio coming up and just weeks ago he is entertaining Bill Clinton, Alex Soros, and Clinton’s pro-abortion entourage at the Vatican with smiling photo shoots. The Pope is every bit a pro-abortionist and his pretense of being a pro-life Pope is a giant farce. His lack of photo sessions with any of our country’s pro-life politicians and candidates before crucial votes in the USA are few if non-existent. When he speaks out about abortion he tries to find the least critical time and the smallest and when possible the remotest audience. If he were to meet with a conservative pro-life candidate from this country its pretty much on the down-low, giving it as little public view as possible. If he meets with them at all.
The Catholic Church is dying under the Jesuits. It has been fed to the hands of soulless politicians and their donors.
“Have men (in general) really become so lousy that they don’t see an alternative?”
Yes
POINT #1 - fornication and baby killing have gone hand in hand throughout history. Men throughout history (without marriage) have generally walked away from the consequences of sexual unions.
“Why are women so eager to maintain the right to destroy their unborn children?”
Talk to young women some time. Many of them can’t get a date if they’re known to believe in sex after marriage, so they do what they can to get a mate. That leads us back to point number 1.
R U insane? I despise RINO’s like Mitch and the boys and l don’t know who you are talking about. This was about protecting the Ohio Constitution

You keep believing. About protecting the constitution, listen to yourself. If you had read the breitbart article you might have come to a different conclusion.

I have this whisper in my ear that screams SUCKER. Like the “conservative” John Kasich trying to do away with all septic tanks in the rural parts of the state. Hope and change, lol.

Agree.
The number of people who believe that life begins at conception or a heartbeat is barely bigger than the number who support abortion of a viable fetus, and both consider it an existential issue where no compromise is permissible.
The vast majority falls in to the traditional divisions- should be legal first trimester, should be legal but with counseling and with the say so of a doctor the second trimester, and only for the life of the mother or stillborn or gravely deformed in the third trimester.
