Democrats are drastically overperforming in 2023's special elections. Is it a clue for Biden vs. Trump?

Looking ahead to 2024, Democrats concede some cause for concern -- including President Joe Biden's anemic approval rating and early polls forecasting a repeat race against former President Donald Trump in which Biden either ties or trails, due in part to a notable chunk of undecided voters and apprehension over Biden's age and acuity, which he has repeatedly dismissed.

Outside of Trump, what do Republicans have?

With the possible exception of DeSantis, they have Bupkis.

The abortion issue hurt the GOP in the midterms. Sad but true.

The article is about state legislative races, primarily. These tend to be HARDCORE GOPe. Such candidates will get no enthusiasm from true Republicans.

This has nothing to do with ballot harvesting or with the RNC chair (who probably is not involved in local races).

Read the article.

Perhps it is a clue that Democrat election control is moving down ballo. No clues needed for 2024. The Democrats rigged the elections of 2016, 2020, 2222 and probably 2018. There has been on effective blowback, none at all from the Republican Party and the courts refuse to touch it. Why would the Democrats not continue with a winning strategy and amplifying it to super blowout proportions?

“Agree, abortion is a huge vote loser for (R), even DW is against an outright ban.”

People on here do not get this point. Young people are pretty much 100% in favor of abortion, pot, and homosexual marriage. The Dims have been using these issues against us in 2023 and I see no reason why they won’t win in 2024 with them.

I am highly skeptical that any Republican will ever be able to win a presidential election again.

Most of the people on here do not have regular contact with people under 35. They can’t see that Republicans have permanently lost them because of godlessness. We are well on the road to becoming Europe.

Not every state is like California. That said, the Democrats are fired up. We took away their "right to choose".

Meanwhile, our morale is low. The Deep State is against us. So the game is "rigged". So why would we show up and vote? You'll see voter fatigue on the right and some will just drop out of the political process and cede the territory to the Democrats.

“According to that article abortion is driving the Democrat success. I gather that is why Trump attacked DeSantis for signing the Florida bill that prohibits most abortions early in the pregnancy.”

And yet pro-lifers are Trump’s base. If he’s perceived as now pivoting on abortion and selling us out, how can he win?

Rs are not professionalizing their get out the vote efforts like Ds have, and in some cases, I believe it’s on purpose because the R donor class would rather the country burn than have Tea Party or MAGA types represent them in congress.

The strategy for the democrats in 2024 according to their message boards, is to highlight abortion and hatred of Trump.

Those two things are the big motivators for their base going into 2024.

Tuesday will once again prove all. Enthusiasm for voters. Ohio is a pretty deep red state. Are the republicans motivated enough to win an election? Time will soon be here and the questions answered. Then off to Virginia, Kentucky and lousiana in November. We should win every election for the rest of the year. But will we as a collective be motivated enough?

Abortion is on the ballot. If it's not an issue, the dynamics may be different.

I hate that abortion is being used for this amendment. It’s more than that. I wish Florida had this amendment being proposed. One year we had 17 amendments to answer on the ballot. To me the amendment should be “legislature do your damn job”. They add amendments so legislators don’t have to have recorded votes on issues, pretending it democracy. Spit!

California is the worst with allowing citizens to vote on every law there is. It's a form of direct democracy and it doesn't work well because citizens do not have the time to educate themselves on all the issues.

And that's how they passed the stupid law allowing criminals to steal anything in California as long as it's under $950.

She certainly couldn’t do a worse job than Romney-McDaniel.

I’m not picking sides on this one, but the human condition in general, and the Republican leadership in particular, has an almost infinite capacity to disappoint in surprising ways.
