Just under half of Republicans would not vote for former President Donald Trump in 2024 if he is convicted of a felony, according to a new poll.
In a survey conducted on Wednesday and Thursday, 45% of Republicans nationwide said if Trump was "convicted of a felony crime by a jury," they would not vote for him.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll also revealed that 35% indicated that they would vote for him regardless. All others said they didn't know.
More than half of Republicans, 52%, said they wouldn't vote for Trump if he were "currently serving time in prison." Still, 28% said the former president would still have their vote.
Despite this, 75% of respondents agreed that the indictments brought against him were politically motivated. Two-thirds further said they don't believe the most recent indictment's assertion that Trump sought to perpetrate election fraud in an effort to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
Trump pleaded not guilty on Thursday to special counsel Jack Smith's four new charges of conspiracy to defraud the United States, conspiracy to obstruct an official proceeding, obstruction of and attempt to obstruct an official proceeding, and conspiracy against rights. He was indicted by a federal grand jury in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday.
Even as roughly half of Republicans say a conviction would deter their vote, the former president has seen boosts in support in Republican primary polls on each occasion that he has been indicted or received a target letter foreshadowing an imminent indictment.
In one of several posts on Truth Social on Thursday, Trump alluded to these bumps in support, saying, "I NEED ONE MORE INDICTMENT TO ENSURE MY ELECTION!"

The full.court press is on now that Trump has been indicted again. They perceive this is his moment of greatest vulnerability. They underestimate the loyalty of his supporters.
These polls and articles are written to prepare people mentally to be against Trump. There is little question a DC jury will convict Trump of these absurd felony counts. The DC Circuit will confirm the verdict. The Supreme Court will overturn the conviction, potentially 9 -0 as even liberals, with any sense of legal reasoning, cannot make this case a precedent for freedom of speech becoming crimes. Problem is the timing. They’ll hold things so trials won’t begin until prime election season and won’t conclude until too late for the Supreme Court overturning the crazy verdicts. We have to pray they hurry the trial so it’s over in time. This is the weakest possible case against Trump. It’s just stupid.
I won’t vote for anyone but Trump. In fact, when the Trump era is over, so is my support for these backstabbing, lying corrupt Republicans.
Push poll. See above.
It's a push poll. See above.
I’m glad to vote for Trump.
Even if he is imprisoned.
BS, his polls go up after every indictment. Totally bogus poll here trying to convince people to give up on Trump. eff em
Polls are for idiots. Exit polls are for morons.
This poll is meaningless to me.
And has zip to do with my comment. My support for the Republican party comes to an end after the Trump era. I’ve had it with that entire party.
And rather than stay and help wake them up you...???
Stay asleep yourself, in a fashion?
President Trump 47/2024 or bust.
Why vote for a UniParty hack, when they’re backstabbing cucks.
Don’t believe negative polls. They are not designed to inform with facts - but rather to discourage with lies.
I cannot help it if there are Trump only people. Anyone who does not vote for GOP candidate in Nov.’24 is a dimwit.
Exactly.
But there is something that REALLY bothers me here. (NOTE: I do keep in mind the method of polling here is probably COMPLETELY inadequate and incapable of delivering a meaningful result, but the point is-this is what the Left is likely banking on and working towards...they want to infect Republicans who may have their hearts in the right place, but do not look at the details of the process that would render the legal process completely invalid)
I think Freeper Observator was the first in to see it:
This poll, if valid, displays a disturbing indicator: 75% recognize the process as politically motivated, yet 45% of those people still retain some bizarre form of trust in the trial by jury.
It is as if there is a complete mental disconnect in that 45% who say they wouldn't vote for him if he is convicted even while recognizing the entire process is rigged.
I find that lack of intellectual rigor quite disturbing. Granted, some may not realize the completely biased Leftist judge, handpicked venue, and stacked jury inherent in the way the Leftists have constructed this kangaroo court process, but...still.
It is disconcerting that they don't understand this contrived and biased process Trump is being subjected to.
I usually respect the opinions I read here on FR; from the TRUMP haters, not so much.
The TRUMP haters seem to have a lot of reasons for their views, the one I see the most of is “Trump can’t win”, as I recall they said the same thing in 2016 and they were WRONG!
Democrap CHEATING is what got them their biden and all his FAILED POLICIES.
They will try it again with a few new angles, for all those TRUMP haters out there my suggestion would be vote for TRUMP unless you want another 4 years of a BRAINDEAD PEDOPHILE CRIMINAL WHO SELLS OUT AMERICA again.
For all those folks who don’t like “mean tweets, coarse language, or I just don’t like him” your alternative is a vegetable in the Oval Office and that’s an insult to all vegetables.
On the contrary. Some polls reveal a lot to the wise.
This push poll in its very nature
proves whether the person viewing it is an idiot or not.
The reaction is the evidence of its effectiveness.
Failure to recognize tactics, failure to gauge reaction.
This one would. Though technically, I’m registered as an independent, so I can vote in whichever primary I feel is more important. Got the idea from Rush when it was Hillary and Obama. And since the Pubbies have p*ssed me off plenty, it still seems like the right strategy.
How many times have I voted for a Dem? Twice. Once for sheriff (no R running against him) when I was a newly minted adult, and once for the county coroner who had a very weak opponent. County coroners shouldn’t have political parties by their names, IMHO.
