Here’s How Voters Feel About Trump, Even Those Who Wrongly Believe He's Guilty of 'Serious Federal Crimes'

New polling from The New York Times and Siena College shows a now-familiar picture of the state of the Republican presidential primary field: Trump with a dominant lead, DeSantis a distant second, and all the other candidates somewhere in the rear with three percent or less.

According to the Times/Siena poll conducted July 24-27, the numbers shook out to 54 percent for Trump, 17 percent for DeSantis and three percent for Haley, Scott, and Pence while Ramaswamy and Christie tied with two percent. The remaining declared candidates failed to reach one percent.

The shellacking Trump is shown to be delivering to his GOP rivals among likely primary voters in the Times/Siena first survey of the 2024 campaign seems to be pretty universal across different demographics:

Mr. Trump held decisive advantages across almost every demographic group and region and in every ideological wing of the party, the survey found, as Republican voters waved away concerns about his escalating legal jeopardy. He led by wide margins among men and women, younger and older voters, moderates and conservatives, those who went to college and those who didn’t, and in cities, suburbs and rural areas.

The poll shows that some of Mr. DeSantis’s central campaign arguments — that he is more electable than Mr. Trump, and that he would govern more effectively — have so far failed to break through. Even Republicans motivated by the type of issues that have fueled Mr. DeSantis’s rise, such as fighting “radical woke ideology,” favored the former president.

Notably, when primary voters were asked to choose between Trump or DeSantis in a head-to-head contest, even 22 percent of "voters who believe [Trump] has committed serious federal crimes" supported the 45th president — "a greater share than the 17 percent that Mr. DeSantis earned from the entire G.O.P. electorate."

Republican primary voters polled for the latest survey were more likely to say that DeSantis is "likable" and "moral" while Trump is seen as "fun," "able to beat Joe Biden" and "get things done" as a "strong leader." Despite the DeSantis campaign's efforts to show the Florida governor as the more electable candidate in the general election, more GOP primary voters still think Trump can beat Biden this time around.

The Times explains further:

A strong majority of Republicans surveyed, 58 percent, said it was Mr. Trump, not Mr. DeSantis, who was best described by the phrase “able to beat Joe Biden.” And again, it was Mr. Trump, by a lopsided 67 percent to 22 percent margin, who was seen more as the one to “get things done.”

Mr. DeSantis narrowly edged Mr. Trump on being seen as “likable” and “moral.” Interestingly, the share of Republicans who said Mr. Trump was more “fun” than Mr. DeSantis (54 percent to 16 percent) almost perfectly mirrored the overall horse race.

Sure, it's still early in the primary race. But there hasn't been much that's changed the math of the field. Each indictment against Trump has only bolstered his standing and — despite polls showing an uphill slog for the former president in the general election — Republicans still think he's better positioned to retire Biden and are willing to support him, even if they believe he's committed serious crimes.

People on the other side “think” that men can turn into women at will. People on the other side “think” that calling that insanity means we deserve prison.

People on the other side “think” that voting for Trump makes us fascist Nazis who deserve to be beaten and killed.

Which side do you “think” is worse?

I have no idea what you are talking about. My only point is any Republicans who think that politicians who are actually guilty of serious federal crimes, should still be President, are dangerous to the party, and the country. Now that you’re changing the subject sounds like you actually might agree with me.

RE: Clownhall is far from reliable when it comes to Trump. They lie all the time.

They’re just reporting the results of the Sienna poll.

RE: I am not a Trump supporter, anymore

Just curious, what happened to cause you to change your mind about Trump?

I am still an avid, walk on my knees across a mile of broken glass to vote for Donald Trump supporter.

I can’t speak for others, but that is me.

“It’s the only way it will endure.”

You can’t “endure” when you’re dead, and the elite want you dead. Trump is standing in their way. He wasn’t kidding when he said they are not after him, they are after YOU.

People complain about their lot in life but then do themselves the worst of harms.

It was a long painful road to separate from Trump. It really started with corona. I am a scientist/engineer, and I took huge interest in what was happening from the very start. Trump had my heart when he first called it a hoax. I believed that then and I still believe it now. But he didn’t stick with that. He went hard the other direction. I hung with him mostly, but when it got to some of those exec orders for free rent and college, and paying people to stay at home, I felt he had lost his way, completely. Rushing through a “vaccine” by changing the definition of vaccines, and not focusing on therapeutics as he had originally, seemed misguided, at best. The world knew Fauci was behind gain of function, at Wuhan, but Trump refused to even address the subject, ever.

Then how he seemed so inept during the election, and it’s aftermath. The pointless J6 rally, that everyone told him in advance would blow up in his face. I was still handling all this at the time, and supporting him though.

Another real eye opener came when it was announced he had collected $250M in December 2020 alone, for election security. I fought with other Freepers here who were laughing and saying Trump was just scamming people. I said no he’s not, he’s building a website to track the fraud and will bring it in new court cases. But right after J6, Trump disappeared. Went to build a website, all right, but not to track election fraud.

Then in late 2021 I was faced with having to take the vaccine, or lose my six figure job, close to retirement. I debated, and one of the main reasons I rlented and took it was that Trump swore by it. Then, immediately after taking it, my feet started swelling like ridiculously. I went to my doctor, who said it was heart related. I was shocked as I had been playing tennis up to three times a week for decades, along with swimming and lots of other physical work that kept me in great shape.

I couldn’t get in to see a cardiologist for 6 months, they were so backed up from vaccine injuries. While I was waiting, Trump has this stupid interview, his first in months, where he claimed HE invented the vaccines himself, and that there were one of the greatest achievements in the history of mankind! If I could have jumped through the screen and grabbed him by the collar I probably would have. I was seriously pissed about that, considering what people already knew about these shots by then.

So I was officially on the wall about Trump then in early 2022. He wasn’t doing jack squat to contest 2020, or to secure 2022, just running around boasting about his stupid shots. Then Dr. Oz, I said a muzzie? WTH Trump?! A lot of his other star candidates for 2022 were just as weak. Then Trump comes out on the eve of the actual election, trashing DeSantis as DeSanctimonious. This was just too much. I live in Florida and I was furious, not knowing if it might cost DeSantis the election, on the very day before, no less.

Thankfully DeSantis won but Trump got destroyed in the swing states. Yet he’s out there bragging about how great he supposedly did, which was ridiculous. I was just thinking how hard it was going to be to keep supporting him from then on.

Then, Joe Biden and the democrats got the gay marriage law passed. A truly horrible day for America. It was such a sad thing to see. A couple days later, when many people were still mourning that new law, an article or two show up that Trump was actually having a “gay gala” at his house the night the law passed. I was nauseated. I knew it was over for me and Trump.

I started to see things in a whole new perspective. I felt comfort from God in my decision. It was a long painful break up, as you can see by this response, but I’m now certain it was the right choice for me. I will vote for him if he wins the primary, but not before. And I don’t think he has a snowball’s chance in the general if he even makes it that far. He’s lost the trust of too many people, which didn’t happen overnight. In my case it took a few years. But boy are things clear once you’re out from under that spell. Many people still supporting him are suffering from group think, peer pressure, and desperation brought on by the trauma of 2020.

It indicates people are giving up on the notion, that those with good and noble intentions, can prevail in politics.

Why do you not believe that President Trump was one of those with "good and noble intentions" when he ran and won in 2016?

It shows that many Republicans are so sick and tired of losing to the left's dirty tricks, that they just want us to now have dirty tricksters running our party as well.

No, it shows that many Republicans are so sick and tired of losing to the left's dirty tricks, that they just want someone who lost to it to finally win in the end.

I disagree, completely, obviously. You fight your best, good and fair fight. You win or lose, but at least you go home with your dignity, and know you fought for what's good and right.

President Trump:

The people see how corrupt the Democrat party has become. They are witnessing the truth of the cliche that "Absolute power corrupts absolutely."

The people believe that President Trump was cheated out of a second term that he believably won because of COVID-19 extreme crisis-mode shenanigans and are eager to send him back to the White House as proof to the Democrats that they ARE fighting for what good and right.

In other words, the people believe that President Trump will not be as naive the second time to believe in the people he puts into the West Wing, and will fight to remove and prosecute the people who violated their oaths of office who committed the actual treason and overturned an election by use of raw unchecked power against their opponents.

That's why he's so far ahead in the polls. It's the only voice that the people have left against the left, the Democrats, and the LAAP-dog media who serve them.

He’s a fighter.

He's a punching bag.

He never fought anyone. He never fired anyone. He never hit back.

He just absorbed blow after blow.
