Is this summer’s extreme heat the new normal?

As the extreme heat now baking the U.S. and other spots around the globe is being fueled by climate change, scientists say we are likely to see similarly hot summers in the future.

But, while this type of heat is expected more often, that does not mean every summer will look like this year’s.

“We have very high scientific confidence that the world will continue to experience summers like this one and in fact that the frequency of extreme heat will intensify further in response to further global warming,” said Noah Diffenbaugh, a professor of Earth system science at Stanford University.

He noted that “the climate’s always going to vary,” but added that “we’re already in a climate where what used to be unprecedented heat conditions are now much more likely

“wonder if our reliance upon a/c has just made the summers outside feel more intolerable.”

That, and people are just “weaker” and “whinier” these days...what will people do if power gets cut?

Blower motor sounds like a friggin’ Huey over the house. Of course any of the reputable HVAC folks will offer up an entire new HVAC system for about $7500. Uh, nope.

The US has 56 states and territories. 33 of them set their all time heat records before or in 1945. The hottest ever recorded on earth and in the US, 134 at Death Valley was in 1913 and has not been broken since. Newsflash: Summer in the US is hot.

It’s summer, people! Just deal.

I’ve lived in 100-105 summers all my life, starting before A/C. I don’t have to work in it any more, but did when I had to. Ranching, horseback for days, we just did it (and bitched about it, then did it some more). We sure didn’t want everyone to switch to golf carts over it.
