It is nearly impossible to escape reminders of today’s boiling opioid epidemic — the billboard advertising Narcan on your commute, a local news story of a teen’s accidental overdose, or the ever-growing public debate over how to best address it.

In just three years, between 2019 and 2021, California’s opioid-related deaths spiked 121%, according to the state’s health department. The vast majority of these deaths were linked to fentanyl, an extremely potent synthetic opioid.

Opponents of harsher penalties pointed to the failed enforcement policies of the crack cocaine epidemic as a reason to reject harsher sentences. Locking up users, opponents said, was a policy choice that led to overcrowded prisons and overpoliced communities.

Same people that closed schools, businesses, would prosecute you for not wearing a mask or showing your vaccine passport. Use the wrong pronoun and go to jail. Kill with fentanyl that's ok

The crisis is one of demand. It’s despair. Despair drives this crisis.

Fentanyl, of course. Being blended by drug dealers in “magic bullet” brand blenders. Some pills have none, some pills kill you, and no one knows which is which.

Oh, gee....whatever could be the reason.

These poor, so-called experts are just having such a hard time figuring things like this....and, the clot $hots excess deaths out.

🙃

Maybe Musk can give these guys a clue, too.

It might be totally unrelated, but I noticed some socialization “downturns”.
My volleyball leagues, which I have played for 9 years, have decreased to about 1/3 to 1/4 the size. My gym never became as crowded either.
I know it’s anecdotal, but staying home or alone is dangerous for many people’s minds.

"What's driving the crisis?"

Wow. That they feel the need to state that question, even rhetorically, is disconcerting.

Lawmakers in 2000: Wow, old people in constant pain are commonly “accidentally” killing themselves. Let’s wait until we get several million Americans addicted to opioids and then....

Lawmakers in 2010: ... suddenly criminalize use of opioids, so all the addicts have to switch from oxycodone, percoset, etc., to street fentanyl!

Lawmakers in 2020: Gosh, why are so many people dying of fentanyl overdoses?

>> This is not a root cause. So I ask you, WHAT is the actual root cause? <<

It IS the root cause. After getting millions of people addicted to opioids, they suddenly slammed off the tap, driving addicts to look to street fentanyl. The prop up an enormous fentanyl underground market and then create quasi-legal marijuana markets. Desperate, hopeless, oppressed children turn to marijuana, fentanyl, and often fentanyl-laced (THANKS CHINA!) and die by the tens of thousands.

“staying home or alone is dangerous for many people’s minds”

Agreed.

Weird though that some struggle with isolation and yet many people are absolutely revolting against returning to the workplace vice working from home.

Got a neighbor that just got pulled back to the office couple days a week and he is absolutely beside himself over it.......human behavior is a trip......and people nowadays are unbelievably spoiled.
