Scattered severe thunderstorms are pummeling parts of the mid-Atlantic and Northeast Wednesday afternoon, including much of the major I-95 corridor cities of New York, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., bringing heavy rains, strong winds, frequent lighting and even a sighting of a funnel over the Washington Capitol.
Some of the severe thunderstorms could bring wind gusts of 60-70 mph, according to the National Weather Service.
On Tuesday afternoon, a funnel was spotted above the US Capitol building in Washington, D.C. The funnel did not pose any risk to the area.
“That is not a tornadic situation,” said FOX Weather meteorologist Jordan Overton. “It doesn’t mean there was a tornado. It just means you get kind of spinning, some shear in the atmosphere that are usually kind of really skinny, and they’ll be kind of dark in color. They look really scary, but they’re not actually tornadic.”

How long until we see the “Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together - mass histeria” type stuff? I’m waiting, although not really patiently. The sooner, the better.
All that money laundering in the swamp has gone into the spin cycle.

Today is Wednesday and it is not afternoon yet. ??
They’re pretty terrifying on the receiving end. A whole river of wind and wet just falling on top of you from what just previously appeared to be just a gnarly thunderstorm.
There seems to be several different aspects to the recent uptick in weather horror stories - one, is what Greg Gutfield has been saying, namely, it’s summer and lots of reporters are on vacation. Reporting on the weather is the easiest thing to do when short staffed.
Secondly, there does seem to be an effort to create a panic about weather to maintain various experts’ TV profile the same as in the pandemic.
Thirdly, there is a legitimate change in weather due to a under-reported major event, the Tonga marine volcano explosion. See the story here as to how this is having significant impact on the global weather, even after a year:

In what dimension is this happening? Today is Wednesday, right? DC and Philly forecasts call for clear and 0 precip today.
btw, a microburst is a sudden strong downdraft typically within a thunderstorm.
The remains of a Lockheed L-1011 that was Delta Flight 191 slammed into the ground at DFW International Airport in 1985 by a Microburst from a thunderstorm in Texas.
We need to speed the draining of the Swamp.

Yes, they do, and if I can paint the picture properly, I'll describe one memorable storm. I went to law school in D.C. in the mid-'70s, and one of the large classrooms had a huge set of picture windows which covered one whole wall from almost the floor to the celling, looking out over the city. The professor, who was tall and thin, had a thick Romanian accent, exactly like Count Dracula. As the class began, a powerful storm came up and filled the sky over out the window with dark, muscular clouds. As lighting jumped horizontally from one cloud to another shaking the windows, the professor rubbed his thin hands together and began with "Tooday ve are gooing to talk about inn-terr-veebos transacuhoons". Hollwood could not have scripted the scene any better, and I'll remember it for the rest of my life.
Funnel spotted in DC looking for Joe Biden.
Nothing Biden can’t tick off
Technically, the funnel cloud isn’t a tornado until it’s on the ground. Not all funnel clouds become tornados.
As a trained storm spotter, I would report that to NOAA as a funnel cloud.
