I have lived in both Phoenix, Arizona and Houston, Texas and I can tell you 100° with 40% humidity is more miserable than 119° with 14% humidity.

Totally agree. I've lived in LA and now Phoenix, not Houston but spent weeks at a time there and across the South on business many years ago. I'd take low humidity 110-120 over 85 degrees and humid any day.

The official Phoenix weather station is at the airport-with all of the glass/steel/concrete.

The official temperature is probably measured at the airport.

There are valid reasons for that - pilots need to know real time temps when they land and take off, so airports frequently have the best temp equipment in the region, and it updates minute by minute.

However, here in Seattle, our official airport temp is usually 1-3 degrees hotter than downtown, and up to 5 degrees hotter than the shady suburbs.

I was born and raised in southern AZ. For as long as I can remember, it starts getting really hot beginning the 21st of June every year.

A couple of weeks ago when the temps finally reached 100 here in Reno, I don’t have AC. The heat doesn’t bother me during the day, but my house seems to radiate the days heat in the evening making it impossible to sleep, so I did the normal dsrtsage solution and drove to the northern cal coast. In the valley, it was 106 in Marysville. In Ukiah it was eighty something. As I hit the redwoods west of Anderson Valley, it dropped into the 70s. When I at last reached the Pacific Ocean just to the south of Fort Brag, it was 57 degrees and foggy

These westerners are clueless on heat. Miami at 92 is much worse than Las Vegas at 110.

I live in southern Oregon and remember several summers over twenty years ago when we had several days when the highs temps were between 110-119.

I spent a few summers in Tempe in the late 70s and remembering the heat and loving the low humidity. I also remember candles in my friend’s home melting, so I assume it hasn’t changed much in the last 40 years.

I was in PHX on this date 2 years ago and it was 118. It’s PHX in the middle of summer and it’s what you get

The funny thing is that the low in Phoenix tonight is 93. That is higher than the “high” for most of the country.
