Trump Leads GOP Field in Iowa as DeSantis Fades 6 Points in 3 Weeks

Former President Donald Trump leads Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) by nearly 30 points in Iowa as the Florida governor’s support continues to wane, according to a National Research Inc. survey conducted for American Greatness.

The poll published on Tuesday shows that 42 percent of likely Republican Iowa caucusgoers support Trump, placing him 27 points ahead of DeSantis at 15 percent.

DeSantis has lost six points of support compared to when he pinged at 21 percent in a July 5-6 survey from the pollster, while Trump has dropped two points. Overall, DeSantis’s support has dwindled 11 percent since the first poll conducted on May 11-12.

Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) continues to gain on the Florida governor, as he has since early May, registering at nine percent. This marks a two-point increase since earlier this month.

Scott also enjoyed success in both a Fox Business poll released on Sunday, showing him at ten percent in South Carolina, and in a University of New Hampshire poll last week, where he earned eight percent of support in the Granite State.

National Research Inc. finds that entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, who has begun to surge in national polls, has also climbed two points in recent weeks. He holds five percent of backing among likely caucusgoers and lands in fourth place.

Former Gov. Chris Christie (R-NJ) has four percent of support, followed by former Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC) and Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND), who tie at three percent in this latest poll. Former Vice President Mike Pence takes the final spot with just two percent of backing.

Over six in ten of the those surveyed think Trump is best fitted to “improve” the economy versus just thirteen percent who say DeSantis is the better man for the job. Similarly, pluralities say the 45th president is “the strongest candidate to oppose far-left progressives,” the best hope to beat President Joe Biden, and that he is the candidate that cares most about their “needs and concerns.”

In three months.

Seriously, I saw Steve Forbes in action. I recall both Fred Thompson and Phil Gramm. I remember Howard “Yeaaaaaggghhh” Dean.

I can’t ever remember a candidate falling so far so fast, except, perhaps, Yeb.

What the USA needs is to rid it’s self of Democrats and RINOs.
In reality we are mostly Libertarian types.
But not motivated or organized enough to get rid of our government problem.
Trump is an ass, but he gets stuff done.
I worked for years with difficult people but we made the best aircraft at one job and did the best science at another job the world had seen at the time.
I’m going to vote for Trump. as long as his focus is now on killing the deep state.

At this point, it’s basically Trump, the INCUMBENT, running for re-election...against a few Republican wannabees - think Harold Stassen in 1984. So why should Trump DO ANYTHING to raise the profile of those against him?

This isn’t hard to understand.

DeSantis went from the next Donald Trump to the next Jeb Bush.

****************

DeSantis benefited from a bunch of hype down in minor league politics, where the scrutiny and talent aren’t as good.
He’s a rookie in national politics, so if he wants to continue climbing the political ladder, he’ll have to improve or he’ll be back in the “bus leagues.”

“Welcome to the Majors, Mr DeSantis.”

Tim Scott moving in to second, puts pressure on President Trump to pick him for VP. Not good.

President Trump can have bigly numbers but they will not make any difference with all the indictments being thrown at him. Is there any confidence that Trump’s lawyers will squash those indictments like the rats that created them?

The cards are defiantly stacked against trump.

1) he’s hard to work for
2) democrats attack lawyers who do work for him
3) he’s got to beat every charge they come up with
4) they only need one to stick to toss him in jail
5) He’s got to battle them in court and run for president at the same time. Either is a big ask from anyone, both is next to impossible. even for trump but if anyone can do it, it’s him. He does seem to have more energy than the energizer bunny. (biden can’t walk and chew gum but the friendly to him press will run cover for him)

I agree. Trump’s lawyers have a huge task and they are have not yet announced which charges account for the multiple counts.

I can't get to the details of the poll, but from the gross numbers on the first slide, it looks like DeSantis' slide corresponds with the other candidates getting in the race.

We see DeSantis beginning his slide from 26% to 24% to 21% to 15%.

At the same time we see Tim Scott increasing from 1% to 5% to 7% to 9%, while the other candidates were either staying flat or falling.

To explain DeSantis' final drop of 6% in July 23-24, we also see North Dakota Governor Douglas Burgum making his first move from zero to 3%.

The other candidates were making incremental small gains that were offset by the small decrease in Undecideds in the last period.

My hunch at this point is that the "never Trump" voters are shopping around right now. I believe we will continue to see movement between all of the candidates, DeSantis included, as the race proceeds to the debate period.

Right now the candidates are all having their poll numbers influenced by the LAAP-dog media's selective reporting on all of the GOP candidates. Once Republican primary voters see the candidates for themselves in actual debates the numbers will move again.

No really. If these numbers stay Trump has a pretty strong mandate and doesn’t really have to play ball. That’s another reason why we need Desanctimonius out. We want to give Trump a very strong hand in the conventions so he doesn’t have to give anything up to the swamp. Be smart guys. That being said, Scott may work out (we don’t want Trump forced into a pick though)

Pro Trump video meme/political ad. Not an endorsed ad, nor is it paid for by any PAC. Reality in the face and very well done.

Not all of the “other” votes are never Trump. I suspect half of Desanctimonius’ original support is never Trumper. That half will bounce and the other may be peeled off by anyone (including Trump)
