Poland has reiterated its claim on €1.3 trillion ($1.4tn) in damages caused by Germany’s invasion and occupation of its territory during the Second World War while making comparisons to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine that Berlin will likely find uncomfortable and has so far seemingly tried to ignore.
Germany should lead by example on the Ukraine war and settle accounts with neighbouring Poland, which it invaded and occupied between 1939 and 1945, causing terrible harm and subjecting the nation to the Holocaust, Polish Secretary of State for Europe Arkadiusz Mularczyk has said.

I actually think this more to do with the Germans and the EU demanding Poland take in more Muslim refugees, this is how Poland is trying to retort.
“Germany ‘paid’ reparations for WW2 by reabsorbing East Germany at the fall of the Iron Curtain.”
Whatever that cost was it had nothing to do with, nor was it compensation for what Germany did to Poland in WWII.
“The Germans being an active NATO partner and not being a hindrance to the new NATO members like Poland on the world stage would be a reasonable payback.”
Nothing to do with, nor any payback for German damages to Poland in WWII.
All reparations for WW I paid (in the range of 270 billion DMs)...to the US banks, who covered Brit, US and French ‘costs’. I think this final payment (in gold) was in the past 20 years. After this....Merkel wanted the last of German gold held in NY City, removed. Far as I know...it’s been all removed now.
“Any Germans who were involved in the invasion should be liable. Not their descendants.”
That might be O.K. if in fact the Germans in the generation of the war had made such reparations, which they didn’t. We can say THEY passed that debt to their desecendents.
East Germany and Poland were both part of the Soviet Block from 1945 to 1990. Any war reparations owed to Poland would have been administered by the Soviets during that time period, including but not limited to East Germany ceeding much land to Poland that is still part of modern Poland today.
Now Germany did get the benefits of The Marshall Plan, while Poland got squat.
Maybe that would be the better approach for Poland is to point out that they’re due some of that Marshall Plan money that Germany got.
Or maybe they're owed reparations from Russia for 45 years of Soviet occupation.
Yep. Someone queue up Ron Burgundy.
I know a lot of Poles wouldn't mind this being taken away...
Poles refer to it as "Stalin's Penis".
I see what you did there…
“Well, that escalated quickly.”
I am too incompetent to post pics from my iPad…
Do you are arguing for reparations for people who weren’t hurt paid for by people who didn’t hurt them? You are for reparations for US slavery too, then I assume.

I view nation-to-nation state-to-state relations differently.

Weak. Try again.
Putin should consider it a good deal, because it’s still a lot cheaper than paying all the reparations for all the atrocities committed by the USSR at the behest of his hero J Stalin over more than two decades.===
It is just funny)))..
Don’t forget that the Soviet Russians occupied both East Germany and Poland post WWII.==
Not only by Russians but by Ukrainians too. They were also soviets.
And the occupation was a similar today American bases in Germany. Then Germany is STILL under occupation today.
